It was only a few months ago that Jabbawockees were dubbed as America’s Best Dance Crew, but now season two is here with some new talent. The Live Auditions premiered today June 7th, 2008 with 14 crews from all over the country.

The first region to go was the East with four crews: Boogie Bots, SassX7, Phresh Select and Shh! This was the most disappointing region of them all since they have the weakest talent. If they were mixed in with the other regions, they would all be sent home. If you had to select a best here, Boogie Bots (pictured left) would be it. Three crews moved on and the one didn’t was Shh! I guess their salsa, bra flashing routine wasn’t enough for the judges. Honestly, I liked it better than supposed “non-cheerleader” crew SassX7 (who really are cheerleaders for Rutgers University).

Next was the Mid-West which is when the sound decided to cut out but that didn’t matter, because they “killed it”. It was definitely a wake up call from the last 4 crews. Reppin the Mid-West is ASIID, Xtreme Dance Force and Full Effect. Even though Full Effect was not chosen, they were so much better than some of the East coast crews. A bit dramatic (reminded me of Iconic from last season) but they were professional and clean. Another interesting thing about the Mid-West was that ASIID (pictured left) has a deaf member named Joey Antonio who the whole crew considered the heart of the crew. Their routine was impressive and something to watch out for.

Next was the dirty South with So Real, Distored X and HIStory. My friend’s friend’s cousin’s is part of the crew So Real (pictured left) who I would say is the Kaba Modern of the second season. Not just because they’re Asian but because their routine was creative and clean. They played with the boy, girl aspect like Kaba Modern but mixed it with their own style that made them memorable. And no, I’m not being bias because I’m from the Dallas area; all the crews were really impressive and made the show live up to my expectations for this season. Unfortunately someone has to go and it was HIStory who I liked better than Distorted X.

Last but not least is the West coast with Super Crew, Supreme Soul, Fanny Pack and Team Millennia. There was a lot of controversy with this region. Not only did Supreme Soul claim they beat Jabbawockeez in a recent battle but Fanny Pack was selected over Team Millennia. Fanny Pack may have brought some fresh style but their routine did not impress me as much as Team Millennia. After seeing them, I had my bets on Super Crew (pictured left), Supreme Soul and Team Millennia to make it to the end. At least I’m 2/3 right. Once again, the West coast blew the competition out of the water and in the end it’s going to be either Super Crew or Supreme Soul or both. That is, unless America and the judges pull a Status Quo-like robbery.
The season premieres on June 19th at 10pm ET. Be sure to vote at the America’s Best Dance Crew website.
