Last night was the MTV Asia Awards hosted by Jared Leto and Karen Mok. If you didn’t catch it like the rest of us without satellite TV then you can watch parts of it at www.mtvasiaawards.com.

It was just like any MTV award show, celebrities, awards, performances, a few memorable moments and then the after party. There were only seven awards but one of which was given to nine different countries. Also, the performances were made by Pussycat Dolls, Stefanie Sun and Electrico, The Script, Leona Lewis, The Click Five, Project E.A.R and Panic at the Disco.

And if you’re wondering the winners are…

Favourite Music Artist Awards from Asia:

Favorite Artist of China: Li Yu Chun

Favorite Artist of Hong Kong: Leo Ku

Favorite Artist of Indonesia: Yovie & Nuno

Favorite Artist of Korea: Super Junior

Favorite Artist of Malaysia: Nicholas Teo

Favorite Artist of Philippines: Chicosci

Favorite Artist of Singapore: Stefanie Sun

Favorite Artist of Taiwan: Show Lo

Favorite Artist of Thailand: TOR+ Saksit

International Music Awards:

Favorite International Artist of Asia: Linkin Park

Best Hook-up: Timbaland feat. OneRepublic - “Apologize”

The Innovation Award: Radio Head

Breakthrough Artist: Leona Lewis

Video Star: 30 Seconds to Mars - “A Beautiful Lie”

Bring Da House Down: Muse – Muse Asia Tour

edc Style Award: Panic at the Disco

Knockout Award: The Click Five

Inspiration Award: Karen Mok

What where’s Japan? Well turns out they’re big enough to have their own MTV since they are the 2nd largest music scene. Go Japan!

After hearing all the winners, the only one that really makes me think is Suju. I wonder what SNSD, Wondergirls and Big Bang fans are going through right now.

Maybe it’ll change with Obama? Or so I would hope.

It’ll be awhile before that happens. People are so stupid here sometimes.

Yeah I thought so too. But either way there needs to be more awareness around the world in general about all types of music.

I thought they did?

I think in general they should have at least one international music award.

Well it’s not like some Asian countries have big entertainment industries like America or Japan.

That’s what I would think. It’s mainly because the fans of Asian music are also big supporters of the careers of American artists. So it would make sense that they’d also have an award section over there, since they do a lot of spending.

However, here in the US (and other countries) Asian stars are relatively unknown, when given the ratio of their fan base vs homegrown fan bases.

I think what would be cool is to petition MTV to include an International section regardless if they “think” no one will care. It’s not like it will hurt. I mean, look what happened to Ricky Martin that one year he won for best international something or other.I’m not sure what award show it was, but Ricky sure did become a house hold name all across America.

Gold bar shaped like an M.

How come the Asian awards has an international section filled with Western icons, but the American awards has no international section to give exposure to any international stars?

Is the award a gold bar? or purse?
