This picture has been making the rounds on the internet this week. It features Spain’s Olympic basketball team posing for an advertisement prior to the games. Instead of grabbing their crotch like every manly athlete loves to do in pictures, they actually posed with slanted eyes imitating the Chinese. The print ad was for a Spanish courier company and first appeared in the Spanish-language newspaper, La Marca. 

Seriously, what were these fucktards thinking!? Were they that excited about going to the Olympics that they had to pull a racist act like this to offend the host country of the game !? The worst thing is, the team and its management kept denying any wrongdoing when a simple public apology would do. What baffles me is that nobody involved in the picture, not even the professional photographer, seemed to consider that this ad would be looked at negatively. That’s what usually happens when you drink too much sangria and eat too much tapas!

8/16 update: I guess there are others who decided to join in on the
“fun” of imitating the Asians (I guess imitation is a form of flattery…
whatever!).

i’ll admit i find some racist jokes funny(me and my friends dont take them seriously, we even make fun of each other) but i dont find anything comedic or flattering in these pics.


I still can’t believe they were this stupid to pull off something like this and STILL do it.

This photo is an outrage. I saw the Spainards sorry apology in my local newspaper. They said that they are sorry “which was a sort of sorry” for the photo, but they didn’t think that they did anything wrong. They consider the photo as an affectionate gesture to the Chinese. “Look guys! We are making our eyes like yours, so now we look like you!” LMAO GET OUTTA HERE WITH THAT RACIST BULLCRAP!!

You are right Elena. I spoke to a couple of Spanish friends of mine who have lived in the States for a while and they both said that in Spain people are not PC at all. In fact they would find this funny and cute. Go figure!


KUDOS to you for reporting on this, Andrew. If even one ball player had had the balls to say “This is wrong....I’m not participating,” this would not have happened. I have heard from people who’ve lived in Europe that folks over there can be very politically incorrect.


I really doubt it. What does the NBA care?


Two of the players on the Spanish team are from the NBA (Pau Gasol and Jose Calderon).  Will be interesting to see if the NBA takes action against them…

I actually just read that it was the advertisement company who insisted they pose that way, and that many of them didn’t feel comfortable doing it. Although that doesn’t excuse their behavior, it does shed some light onto the situation. Also I think their semi-apology is bs.

What would posses the ad company to think that was funny is beyond me.

It’s okay. China whooped their ass in winning medals.


Well they could and are. Winning medals and watching Spain not winning is pretty good.


Well it’s not like China can do anything about it now.


Even the shocker picture posted on another blog is better than doing something as moronic as this. The Chinese team should send a picture of all of them holding bottles of tequila.


They weren’t even really apologetic.


How is this not racist? They should be banned.
