Randy Jackson really knows how to milk ABDC for all it’s worth. Apparently ABDC didn’t just end with the 2nd season but now they’ve brought the first and second season crew together to battle for a performance spot at the Video Music Awards in addition to $25,000 donated to their favorite charity. Surprisingly enough, this episode was actually worth watching in contrast to the 2nd season finale.
The first performance was a collaboration by ABDC winners, Super Crew and Jabbawockeez. My prayers were half answered! They performed to a hip hop remix of Queens - We Are the Champions choreographed by Shane Sparks himself. Even though both crew performed together they stayed true to their styles with little reminisces of past routines. Overall it was one of the best performances all season.
Next they announced the 5 crews that were going to head to head: Kaba Modern, Status Quo, Break Sk8, So Real and Fanny Pak. Out of all the crews they could have picked, I’m surprised they picked Status Quo and Break Sk8. Well anyways the challenge was to emulate one dance music videos nominated for a VMA.
First up came the real season one 2nd place winners, Kaba Modern. They were given Justin Timberlake and Madonna – Four Minutes. It was the perfect song for them as they really nailed every part of the performance. They creatively used a conveyor belt that blew my mind in addition to Cindy (one of the female members) doing a wind mill (break dance move). Kaba Modern has definitely stepped their game up within the past few months.
I felt sorry for the next crew to go but it wasn’t anyone special and probably the weakest crew: Break Sk8. Their performance to Neo – Closer wasn’t anything worthy or praise. It was pretty dull and nothing different from what they’ve done before Their whole dancing on skates thing is completely overrated and overdone. They might as well work for the circus now or the Indiana State Fair.
Luckily enough So Real was next and performed to Chris Brown – Forever. I love this crew but their performance wasn’t as good as I hoped it would be. It was a little sloppy as some of the members were off. However they did have the coolest shoes ever.
Next was the infamous 80’s crew Fanny Pak who was lucky enough to get Pussycat Dolls – When I Grow Up. They probably could have done just as well with Status Quos song but whatever. Their performance was okay but I was completely thrown off by the idea that they got the thunderbolt tattoos. As happy as they are to be dancers, that’s a little over the edge for me. Nonetheless they actually performed well but I’ve seen them do better.
Last and definitely least was Status Quo to Danity Kane – Damaged. Wow what a messed up song to give them. As unfortunate as it was they claim their so good that they can do any song; they apparently ate their words. To say the least their performance sucked and it was nothing but tricks yet JC doesn’t say anything. They’ve also had a lot of drama within the crew but were only man enough to put it aside when it came to ABDC.
The judges were also there giving critique after each routine but most of it was bullshit as they praised all the crews including Status Quo and Break Sk8. Finally the end and what a disappointing last performance, the final three crews were going to be announce. They are Kaba Modern (obviously), Fanny Pak and So Real. It was pretty much a no brainer who was going to make it and who is going to win. /Cough Kaba Modern
But if you want to doubt me, go ahead a vote on the MTV website and you can see the top two battle it out on the VMA pre show.
