Greetings! This is Lara and Jessica and together we’re the F.A.M. duo! In this blog, we will share our fangirling experiences from a westerners perspective on the East! Although we’re not pure Asian (together, we actually make 1/4) we still like to listen and watch media from the East. Even though we don’t know the various languages that those cute Asian celebrities sing and act in, we still squeak and squeal because that’s just what fangirls do. Cute guys aside, we also go to anime conventions and are active cosplayers. Our con adventures take us from places such as Boston, Maryland, and more (on the east of the West, of course). Spinach. We just wanted to say that. Now, onto the fun stuff we do. we critique, review, and just flat out comment on topics from games that involve cute legal cock fighting (COUGHPOKEMONCOUGH) to JYP’s fashion sense (darn those plastic pants…). Now, we will introduce ourselves individually!

Salutations! I’m Lara and I am the 1/4 Asian of the duo, my other half being Italian, of course. I am an aspiring graphic designer and illustrator. I am also a college student, this year being my freshman year. Now in my freshman year of college, I am taking a Mandarin class so I should be able to speak a little bit by next spring. Every little girl in the 90’s started somewhere and where I ended up was with Sailor Moon. That freakin’ show was my life back then. That’s how I got to where I am today. My passion for Sailor Moon had broadened my view of the world and showed me that there is more to just what I see on television. I am also a music obsessed person. Most of my childhood, I was brought up on music since both of my parents are in that field. I believe I’ve been taught well by my parents and the other teachers I had for the three other instruments I used to play (trombone, piano, and clarinet). I am a very arts and crafts kind of person as well. I really like the hands on work! Recently, Jessica, my brother, some other friends, and I have become cosplayers. The experience has taught me the wonders of a sewing machine so now in my spare time, I like to sew and knit. I also love cooking! One of my favorite things to cook, as well as the easiest, is egg drop soup. How typically Chinese of me but, it always ends up good. As many of my friends know, I have several obsessions. These include the color green, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, T.M.Revolution (well, Takanori Nishikawa in general), and clovers (they’re adorable. I don’t have any real ones… Just stickers, folders, and the like). So, now that everyone here is up to speed with my life, here’s Jessica’s!

Hey all! This is Jessica here and Im the 1/2 of the non-Asian of the duo. I am African American and pretty much have no Asian in me (to my knowledge). A big spark in my inspiration of what I want to do actually came from watching a Japanese drama one day where the main characters produced commercials. Although the story sucked, I did realize that aspects such as lighting, set, or music are just a few things that help a TV show or Movie happen. Although I’m not sure what specific part I want to take, media is something I really want to be apart of. I grew up listening to alot of R&B, hip-hop and soul and it would have never crossed my mind back then that these genres where sung in Asian languages. My like for media from the East comes from anime when I encountered the ending credits to Inuyasha about 3 years ago. The song had a really nice R&B flow and was sung by BoA. It was such a nice song and I was just fascinated by the fact that it was sung in Japanese of all things and I just had to look it up and learn it. The rest became history as I would soon watch more Anime shows and look up more theme songs soon getting open my eyes up to a whole new side of the world I never really acknowleged before. Because of this, I feel as if I’ve grown to be more open to others and see things from different perspectives and now I have alot more friends from different backgrounds and in different places of the world. So, other then my extreme love for UVERworld, drawing puppies and playing with my pet hedgehog, I guess you could say I’m your pretty average Black fangirl. Now with all the introductions done lets get to the fun part!
