I’m not a golf fan, but I have heard a lot about Korean-American golf superstar Michelle Wie…..a sensation at 13, got to play on men’s circuit, now playing well recently. This season, she didn’t do well enough to qualify for the LPGA circuit, and must go back and qualify in the traditional way. Many blame her parents–her dad’s the manager.

Here’s a link to the Yahoo! Sports writeup by Jay Busbee. Some of the comments people made are offensive….particularly the one about her getting laid.

Any thoughts? Any projections on her future career? And what about her dad, anyway?

Comments merged with the forum topic: Michelle Wie, now off to Qualifying School

OK, I’m a dork, making the first comment....but I forgot that another offensive comment on the Yahoo! blog was the person who put “Ahhhh,” all through Michelle Wie’s imagined words, making out like her English was broken.

People say stupid stuff all the time. But as good as she is, she should just qualify the traditional way no matter what. It just seems fair that way.

Well she should buzz right through it.

Why would she need to get laid? o.o

They’re saying she’s overly stress.

Yes, stupid stuff IS part of the blogosphere. Everyone has an opinion, and it’s a chance for them to run their mouths. People have been very hard on this girl. But I do think she has talent. I wish her all the best in developing her skills....real success doesn’t always happen overnight.

Michelle Wie, so far, has been at a high level for the LPGA but keeps missing the cut in the mens. I don’t know if it’s pressure, her father really is an idiot (ala the Williams’ father), confidence issues, or just not reading the courses well (yes you have to read them..golf lesson coming soon to Ningin). One day she is the Maria Sherapova of golf as a great looking advertising model who can win tournaments and next she is Anna Kournikova, able to model like a pro but winning isn’t going to happen. I’d love to see her knock Tiger on his ass. smile

What’s wrong with her father?

What’s wrong with her father?

Mostly rumors. He puts too much pressure on her, he’s her manager so it’s automatically problems, too controlling...the list goes on and on. It’s just typical parent trying to run the child’s career type chat.

He’s just doing what he thinks is best for her. If it wasn’t for him, she probably wouldn’t have gotten where she is.

Besides talent? Doubtful. Same for the Williams sisters. They are hugely talented tennis players who could’ve easily done it without daddy. If you really want to be a sports star then you can be one with or without your father as your manager. But, as I said, everything is rumors and theory to why she can’t make a cut on the PGA and why she hasn’t been truly at the top of her game in the LPGA.

I admit she has talent, but she lacks Mental game(which is critical in golf).
Probably because she’s been pushed too hard by her father…
(Freakin’ Korean parents… “You only got 99 on your math test??? Jason next door got 101 with extra credit")
Sorry for the flash back.
Anyway, skill wise, all pro-golfers are not far from each other.
It’s about when you make a mistake, how you get yourself out of that mistake and
how you handle your pressure on the next holes.
Michelle Wie was CLEARLY too young to run in Pro Circuits…
She’s like Rain… needs to take more lessons and come back…
What’s wrong is that she’s trying to run with the boys, when she can’t even run with the girls…
She has yet to win a Tournament in LPGA… Where does she come off thinking she can run with the boys??? Not trying to be sexist, but guys hit from further tee than girls…
If you have winning streak like Sorenstam or Ochoa, and you feel like you have no where else to go to prove yourself than PGA then bring it… Unless you can finish top 10 in majority of the tournaments, don’t bring yourself into PGA… please… Especially if you can even make the cuts in LPGA half of the times…
This is probably a better move on her part…
Her age is usually the age that a lot of girls start getting into the qualifying school.
From this experience, I hope she learns to humble herself…

With that said, anyone up for a game of golf???
How about a Ningin Golf Outing?

I don’t golf.

Neither do I. It’s expensive and kind of boring.

Simon, you would laugh yourself wet pants if I played golf with you! I suck at sports. Thanks for the invite, though.

Golf is overall difficult.

It takes patience is all.
