David and Goliath, Inc. is an apparel company in Florida that makes dumbass stuff for people to wear. Here are two of their latest T-shirt designs. I find these to be extremely racist. What the hell!? I would like to know which dumbass is brave enough to wear these T-shirts. I guarantee I will rip his shirt to shreds if I see one (only if he’s cute). But seriously, only ignorant people would sell or wear T-shirts like these. I bet they would sell really well in Spain. They will no doubt have a huge following with with the national basketball team there.

My parents make fun of my accent too.

In the end, I think if I wore a shirt that said “Engrish” you wouldn’t find it offensive since I’m asian. But you might think it’s offensive if non-asians wore them?
I think it’s just a different point of views…
Afterall, even though I may be asian, I might be trying to make fun of asians who speak like that…

You’re correct.  It’s a different point of view for me.  Like for an example, when I speak Korean, I speak with a Jeollanam-do accent, even though I was born and raised in Seoul!  I just happened to pick up the stereotypical “ddang-gae” (Like, 알았땅게 (sp?) = arat-ddangae instead of the “yo” (알았어요 = aratsuhyo) and the “gae” (그렁게) as opposed to “eenigga” (그렇니까).  I visited my Halmuni (grandmother) a lot in Gwangju area, so I picked it up.  When I speak like that to the Seoul natives, they are surprised that I know that accent.

It’s kind of sad, though, that some people might think I’m on the “stupid” side because I speak like that, though since the south has a reputation of being “slow and uncultured” (bad stereotype, I know).  Like my mother insists that I didn’t pick it up from her, almost as if it’s a bad thing if I did.  Even if some people may perceive that way, which in itself is messed up, I don’t let it get to me and just speak whatever the way I want!  Besides, I like the Jeollanam-do accent!  And Busan accent!

And Simon, you mentioned how if you wear the “Engrish” shirt, it’s okay, but it’s offensive if a Caucasian wears it?  Funny how the whole “only African-American can call each other ‘N-word’” comes into my mind.  Of course, I can understand WHY it’s offensive, but at the same time, isn’t it like a double standard?

Oh well.  Sometimes it is just easier to let things go by.  After all, if we didn’t, everyone would be angry with each other.  I don’t fancy another WWIII (or IV?) in my lifetime. X_X;;

lol Oh I see. I never saw it that way at least not for eh. To me it’s something you would say like whatever or so so. I guess it depends on you use it. ^^

See, but if I never use “eh” when I normally talk, and then use it to stereotype Canadians… wouldn’t they find it offensive? Just because it’s not offensive to us, doesn’t mean it’s not to them…

Or what if someone kept adding “ma” at the end… How would Cantonese feel?

Everyone says eh. How would that be offensive?

Eh (Pronounced like “Hey” without the “h") is an interjection that Canadians use. It’s one of the most distinct characteristics of the Canadian dialect. For example:
“My school is pretty far, eh, guess I’ll need to wake up earlier.”

It’s a big Canadian stereotype, up there next to maple syrup. It’s the equivalent of replacing my “l"s with “r"s.

If I had a shirt with a big “EH?”
would that offend Canadians?

I still think the internet prefix for canada should be (dot)eh

He’s 1/4 Asian!

Hmmm, interesting perspective, Simon. I think the reason this is offensive is that 1) a white person’s wearing it and 2) it underscores the idea that “it’s OK to make fun of Asians.” If these shirts were making fun of another group, there would be hell to pay in the media.

But...offense is in the eye of the beholder.

Miss Kang, I saw your shirt before....love it!

I’m not offended by immaturity…
If they said something like “F#ck Asians!” Then it’s another thing…
My point… don’t be so sensitive to these things… it’s what they want

NO no.. My shirt said “IM gonna Fk; Asians” LOL it was meant in a good way. LOL

(Bad Joke I would never wear anything with a cuss word on it)

I don’t really find it offensive. Tasteless yes, but offensive? I’ve seen restaurant menus that offend me more.

“Gim Bop - A Japanese dish similar to sushi. Contains carrots, egg, crab meat, watercress, and spinach.”
“No! STUPID FUSION RESTAURANT! STOP MIXING UP ASIANS!”

The heck . . .  Japanese my butt.

They left out ham!  Btw, have you tried those Kimbab?

Most of their shirts are pretty stupid. They’re like a knock of Threadless.

The Engrish one is great! But it should have an example of Engrish on the back. Put one of those signs from the Engrish post of our forums. Hilarious. The other shirt should so be burned.

They couldn’t find something more original to put on a shirt?
