Director Mamoru Oshii, best known for “Ghost in the Shell”, will have his latest anime feature film “The Sky Crawlers” premiere in New York City. The film received its international premiere at the 65th Venice Film Festival, where it was nominated for the Golden Lion. Later, it was greeted with 3 awards at Sitges 08.

“The Sky Crawlers” was produced by Production I.G., who also produced the animation sequences of “Kill Bill, Vol.1″ Oshii’s credits include “Mobile Police Patlabor”, “Ghost in the Shell,” and “Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence”. Oshii intends “The Sky Crawlers” to be his message to the youth of the world.

From director Oshii:
“I am at an age where I am neither too young nor too old to direct a film. Although I still have lots of what I want to experience and accomplish, in societal terms, I could be described as in my “prime years.” I sometimes feel aware of my age especially when I’m surrounded by staff that is much younger than me, or when I’m face to face with my daughter, who is no longer a child.

Consequently I’ve thought about these issues in my role as a filmmaker. I felt urged to give a message to the younger generation.”

Synopsis:
In the not-so-distant future, the nations of the world have channeled their war-like tendencies into a constant battle between fighter pilots known as Kildren, who are destined to live in a state of perpetual youth—unless, of course, they are shot down. When one of them, Yuichi, is assigned to a new base, he is sure that he’s seen the base’s beautiful commander, Suito, somewhere before. His search for the link leads him into his past, which seems more mysterious the more he remembers.

“The Sky Crawlers” will premiere with two screenings at 7pm and 9:30pm, both at the Walter Reade Theater at Lincoln Center, 165 West 65th St, New York City.
There will be a special video introduction with director Mamoru Oshii.

Hrm Everything that I’ve always wanted to do but never had time for.

Wish I could see it.

What would you do if you could be young forever?

Me too but I wouldn’t want to be a piolet.

I wish I could stay young forever.

That’s pretty cool!

This does sound interesting.

I heard about this. A lot of people I know are looking forward to it.

Sigh we need this in California.
