For Asian artists, 2008 seems to be the year of comebacks, newcomers, and tenth anniversaries. Here I’ve created a list ranking my top ten songs of 2008.
10. Arashi - Step and Go
The tenth song on my list is Step and Go by Arashi. 2008 was an amazing year for Arashi and Step and Go was a great song to start it off with.
09. Ayumi Hamasaki - Mirrorcle World
Mirrorcle World was Ayumi Hamasaki’s tenth anniversary single. The song was originally an interlude on her album GUILTY, released earlier this year, but the fans response towards the song was so great that she decided to extend the interlude to a full song, releasing it as a single. Good decision, as this went on to be one of her highest selling singles in years.
08. Hyori Lee - U-Go-Girl
U-Go-Girl was the lead track from the album It’s Hyorish, the first album Lee Hyori has released in two years.
07. Ami Suzuki - ONE
ONE was another tenth anniversary single, this time from Ami Suzuki. Not as good as FREE FREE released last year, but it’s pretty close. The single also sold pretty well… for Ami’s standards anyway.
06. DBSK - 주문 (MIROTIC)
The title track from the boy’s fourth Korean album, their first one in over two years. Also one of the highest selling albums this year, a great comeback song.
05. Son Dambi - Crazy
Yet another comeback, Son Dambi featuring Eric of Shinhwa.
04. Epik High - 1 Minute, 1 Second
Surprise, it’s another comeback. Epik High’s 1 Minute, 1 Second was released this September on their mini-album Lovescream.
03. Big Bang - Haru Haru
Big Bang returned to Korea after releasing two mini-albums in Japan earlier this year with their new mini-album Stand Up. Haru Haru was the lead song from this album. Probably one of my favorites of the year because of Daishi Dance working with G-Dragon on this song.
02. Wonder Girls - Nobody
What kind of fanboy would I be if I didn’t have Wonder Girls at the top of my list? After the huge popularity that Tell Me and So Hot had, people wondered if Wonder Girls could do it again. They did, with Nobody. I had a hard time deciding between Nobody and So Hot, but ultimately I chose Nobody, because of how versatile it is. Watch the video to see what I mean.
01. SHINee - Noona Neomu Yeppeo (Replay)
Finally, my favorite song this year has to be SHINee’s debut single. Despite being released over 7 months ago, it’s still a song that I can replay, replay, replay… lame, I know. This is the song that will forever remind me of 2008.
This blog posting is part of the 5 day 2008 End of the Year event happening Dec. 15-19.
