Talk is cheap, barbers give it away for free with a haircut; however, there are moments in conversation that you’ll remember for the rest of your life. The following celebs have left their mark in media history by saying the wrong thing at the wrong place and time. While most can simply be laughed off, others will haunt them forever.

Oh Shit!
SAWAJIRI ERIKA (沢尻 エリカ)
It’s been nothing but bad times for Erika ever since her 2007 “betsu-ni” scandal, which was an unprofessional display of moodiness at the premiere of her film Closed Note. I thought it was hilarious, but Japanese media and pundits – yes, even pundits – beg to differ; ever since then, they’ve been out for blood, or rather tears. Whatever the case may be when it comes to why Erika behaved the way she did and whether or not it should matter, her career has clearly taken a nosedive. In late 2007, Erika pretty much hightailed it to London under the guise of wanting to improve her English, and upon her return to Japan in early 2008, she blurted out the English expletive after dropping some cosmetics in the airport. As of now, Erika has only fulfilled previous contractual obligations with her endorsement campaigns, but other than that, she’s got nada. Oh shit, indeed. Currently, Erika is back in London. Personally, I’d love to see her back in her former glory, but with the way things look right now, she might as well concentrate on learning new English phrases to describe her career.

I plead with everyone to please stop forwarding the images on the Internet. Furthermore, to completely rid the images from your computer.
EDISON CHEN (陳冠希)
This was Edison’s first response to the 2008 sex scandal that rendered many Hong Kong actresses and singers into mere notches on this admirable man’s bedpost. In my favorite moment of complete cognitive dissonance, Edison had the gall to request gawkers to restrain themselves from peeking at his leaked collection of pornographic images. Let me break this down for you, Edison, my boy… Please stop taking pictures of your conquests. Furthermore, if you absolutely cannot do that, completely rid the images from your computer before entrusting it in the hands of a complete stranger. This would’ve been a hit in the U.S., but unfortunately, the HK crime world doesn’t take too kindly to its actresses being publicly sullied. Good one, Lothario. Trust me, with the mess you’re in, there’s no shame in hiding in Canada forever.
If you come into the city, you are a Taipei citizen. I see you as a human being. I see you as a citizen, and I will educate you well…
PRESIDENT MA JING YEOU (馬英九)
In an effort to garner more support from Taiwanese aborigines, Ma reassured them that they are indeed human beings, too. Well, I’ll be damned, sir – forreal?! Taiwan has a very strong and celebrated aboriginal culture, but it was persecuted under the early dictatorship of the Kuomintang. So, you know, as a Kuomintang party member, what better than to suggest they are inhuman lifeforms that need to be educated? In a country where many of its citizens think he is out of touch with their perspectives and needs, President Ma really outdid himself. This was actually uttered on the heels of 2008 (literally a couple days before the new year), but it’s just too good not to mention. Keep it real classy, Guy. Educate us well in your ways of eloquence.

[Oguri Shun] is a very nice person. I love everything about him.
YAMADA YU (山田優)
Yeah, so does every other girl, Yu. Of course, this quote isn’t even all that funny or interesting in a literal sense, but in context, it was the body slam heard around the world for all Oguri Shun fans. Actress and so-so pop singer Yamadu Yu recently confirmed her relationship with Oguri Shun on a radio station, officially throning both actors as this year’s new power couple. More than that, this modest announcement yanked one of Japan’s hottest “it” boys right out of the window display, which is especially ballsy in a business where being in a serious relationship can cost you your fans. Luckily, this doesn’t seem to be the case for either entertainer.
I’ll be a doting parent.
MOKOMICHI HAYAMI (速水もこみち)
Don’t freak out, Mokomichi isn’t having a kid, at least at this point in time. At the Oh! My Girl! press conference, Mokomichi talked about how he would support his future children if they were to join their tou-chan’s industry, and moreover, he mentioned he would be a doting parent when the day comes. Nothing scandalous, but I thought this would put a smile on Mokomichi fan faces, like you guys could stand to love him more… Me, I’ve never been that into him, nor do I want children, but when I heard this I caught myself grinning like an idiot. Yes, Hayami, yes, exactly… I mean, no, I mean what?

for some reason i find the “oh shit” quote funny
Hehe Oguri fans in mourning!
12/19/08 3:41 am
niichan: Me too.
nightfire: Yep, they’re still going strong. I don’t really like Yu as an actress, but I think they’re cute together.
AsianBoi: You could say that…
Mia: Yep, the “oh shit” thing was her cuss scandal, and she was in One Litre of Tears.
12/19/08 3:34 am
Oh you forgot the Koda Kumi thing where she talked about women’s eggs.
YES!! It definitely deserves to be a quote of the year… thanks for pointing that out!

Argh Yamada..
Whats up with Erika now? Didnt she just have a cussing scandal? She was in 1 litre of tears right?
They’re still dating right?
He’s just a guy?
I’m a little heartbroken that he found someone. hehe

Awww I don’t know who this Yamada Yu is, but it was about time for Oguri Shun!
I feel sorry for his fiance.

saofeng: Last I heard he was engaged to Albert Yeung’s daughter. I can’t remember where I read it, but I distinctly remember him coming to the U.S. with her, then moving back to Canada. I’ll look for it…
mai: Rumphole… ahahaha. When my roomie and I first heard the news, we couldn’t stop laughing, then we went through his blog, which basically made him sound like a spoiled kid. Too bad he closed it… wamp, wamp. I honestly don’t know anyone that ever liked him before the scandal. I totally do not remember seeing his face in the Dark Knight… I’ll definitely have to look out for that one when it’s on DVD. But man, he was one of the few young actors that was capable of doing crossover work (on account of his Canadian upbringing, I’m sure)--what a fool for throwing it all away.Yeah talk about reaping what you sew! But I just figured so many stars around the world that have messed up have bounced back successfully so there’s still a fighting chance he can. Yeah I just saw it on DVD and didn’t see him! There’s this scene where they go to Hong Kong, but I still don’t remember his face.
That’s true. It seems like he’s still active in his entrepreneurial stuff. Audiences are quicker to forget, but I don’t know about industry heads and crime lords… We’ll see! There’s a chance he just didn’t make it through the editing process, or maybe he’s a DVD easter egg haha.

^ loooooooool Tiffanie! You made me almost crack a rib with that post about Edison Chen! I have a friend in Hong Kong who worked with some of the stars and she worked for a quick minute for Edison. She basically said he was a rumphole, loool. I still like him in “Dog Bite Dog” Hey I saw Dark Knight and they listed him as one of the cast members. I can’t remember him in it! Did you see him in it?
Edison has a fiancee?
12/18/08 9:06 pm
LOL Lan… BTW thank you for the intro… I totally forgot to write it. :X :X
Miss.Kang: Holy mother of all terrible tattoos… good one.
SeniorForever: Definitely not, especially by our western standards. I just think it’s funny that’s the first thing she said on her return to Japan.
niichan + japangirl: Yeah, I don’t think he dates around much… If anything, I think he’s into long-term relationships. It seems like he was courting Yu for a really long time. The only other one I’m aware of is that Morning Musume girl that basically got kicked off of Morning Musume for being his girlfriend (or having a boyfriend at all).
yanno: During President Ma’s campaign for the 2008 presidential race, he spoke to various aboriginal villages on the mountains and on the east side of Taiwan. When asked what he had to offer them/what policies they would benefit from, Ma tried to say that he viewed them all as Taipei citizens, which is cool. However, he definitely had a case of the word runs, because he prefaced that by saying, “I see you as human beings...and I will educate you well.” Given the history of how the Kuomintang (his party) treated the aborigines when they fled to Taiwan after getting beat down in the civil war, this caused a huge ruckus in the media. Many felt his “kind words” were a thinly veiled attempt at concealing his contempt for aborigines. And as for what I think… he’s a douche bag, and I can’t wait to see him out of office. I shake my head at the many people who voted for him and who are now finally experiencing regret ala Bush style.
ErikTaylor: I love her, too! I think the rumor is that her agency suspended her for a year… but then again, her personal life is a mess, too, so there’s a good argument for her taking a break out of her own volition. The thing is, with hundreds of girls vying for the few big spots in the Japanese entertainment industry (which she had), I don’t think it’s wise for her to be taking a break. If you’re not constantly churning out material, you may as well step out of the spotlight for good, but it’s Erika afterall… maybe she could make a serious bounce back, and it seems like people are starting to get over the whole betsu-ni thing. And then there’s the photographer, whose name escapes me at the moment, who took it upon herself to photograph Erika for a 2008 magazine spread.
saofeng: If anything, that stuff was probably arranged before the scandal (ie: he was bound to a contract, or the stuff was filmed before the scandal).
mai: Yeah, he ditched HK and went into hiding with his fiancee. He’s always had a big case of egoism (I never liked him to begin with), so he totally shamed himself, and more than that, he’s been getting death threats from pretty much all the HK crime sectors. Even if he did want to come back to prominent entertainment work, he’d have to wait years and years (that’s if he’s lucky), or he’d have to take a huge ass whooping in exchange. No sympathy for this little punk.
12/18/08 8:26 pm
He was still in movies and MVs even after the sex scandal.
Oh really? Cause I remember he said that he wouldn’t come back to movies.

Edison Chen is the most memorable for me. I still wonder if he’ll be coming back to the movie industry.
12/18/08 7:43 pm
I thought it wasn’t real?
12/18/08 7:40 pm
i love erika! the break she’s on now is by her own choice though, and apparently she’s still getting a ton of offers for work.
Poor Kangin.
I don’t get the Taiwanese quote.
12/18/08 7:26 pm
I’ve only known him to date a few girls not a lot.
