Leave it to the motherland (of my parents) to cash in on the Twilight franchise with its Takipsilim (Tagalog for ’sunset’) telenovela, slated to appear February 2009. I once tried to watch “Ako si Kim Sam Soon,” the remake of the widely popular “My Name is Kim Sam Soon” (내 이름은 김삼순) but it was just wrong.
While telenovela remakes are certainly nothing new for Philippine television, I don’t think think I’ll be able stomach this one. Not because I’m thatmuch of a fan — I’m just a firm believer in leaving something already cheesy, cheesy. A Filipino telenovela will only elevate the level of cheesiness. It’s like I already know that I’m silly for being suckered into the cheese, but do you really have to remind me with this telenovela? Let me enjoy the cheese in peace! For more deetz on Takipsilim, check out the Perez Hilton’s report here.
I’m gonna be flogged for saying this, but while we’re still on subject, in terms of Taylor Lautner vs. Ben Barnes vs. Michael Copon for Jacob Black in New Moon, the Twilight sequel — I am on Team Michael Copon. Just because we could use another Asian American on the big screen. And he’s Filipino. And yes, I’m only factoring that and his good looks into who should play the next Jacob Black. When it comes to this franchise…acting skills aren’t entirely a big deal.
No big deal if you get cut, Michael. You can always become a recurring character on Takipsilim.
