The beautiful single Yuki no Hana paints a picture of a soft, winter romance. The original writer and singer of the single is Japanese songstress Mika Nakashima. The song has inspired many artists to remake it in several languages, and each cover has found its own success. As much as I love the original, all the versions have their own special arrangements, and it is very nice to see how each individual artist gave the song their own special touch.
Here are just a few of the covers of Mika Nakashima’s “Yuki no Hana” (Snow Flower)
Hayley Westenra’s version is the only English version I know of. Her voice is so sweet and youthful, and the translation is very close to its older Japanese sibling.
눈의꽃 (NoonEuiKkot) Park Hyo Shin’s Korean version was released on the OST of the drama Sorry I Love You; this version became really popular. Park Hyo Shin has an amazing quality to his voice that not many other popular Korean singers have. He was the perfect choice to cover this song.
“Falling Snow” by Cecilia Han Xue is one of several Mandopop versions. Her voice is so sweet, and she has a great ability to sing high notes easily. Joi Chua’s (Cai Chun Jia) version called “Sorry I Love You” also shares that sweet winter flow.
Lastly, there are several acoustic versions, but this instrumental arrangement on the ukulele by Jake Shimabukuro is one of my favorites.
Other stars that have sung versions of “Yuki no Hana” are Misa, Kim Jung Hoon, Vincy Chan, Junsu (of 2pm), Seo Young Eun, So Ji Sup, and Shin HyeSung.
