A new genre of film is floating around called marine thrillers. As of now, I have no idea what that means. I guess thriller films that deals with water? Regardless of that, a new film will be coming out in early February. That film is Marine Boy.
The film is directed and written by Yoon Jong Seok, a newcomer in the industry. The leading stars are Kim Kang Woo, Cho Jae Hyun, and Park Si Yeon. The film’s about a life of some swimmer (Kim) who’s in debt, works with some lord (Cho), and has a female seducer (Park). From what I understand, the swimmer somehow swallows “a 10-meter-long package, [and] must swim across waters between Korea and Japan.” I’m not sure how that’s possible, but okay . . . I guess I need to watch this to quell my curiosity. Not that it will happen since it’s not really my type of movie.
Honestly, though, am I the only one who finds this new film announcement odd? I mean, here we have news about a song being banned from radios because of its lyrical usage of the word. The Korean Censor Society deems that inappropriate because apparently that word will lead youngsters down the path of abominable usages, yet this kind of film about trafficking is released? I just find the unexpected correlation quite amusing.
