The 10th Annual San Diego Asian Film Festival is looking for Asian and Asian American films!
The first San Diego Asian Film Festival was in August 2000 at the University of San Diego. It was founded by Lee Ann Kim as an event of the San Diego chapter of the Asian American Journalists Association. That first festival attracted nearly 3,500 film fans with nearly 60 films including THE DEBUT, by Gene Cajayon, and the closing night feature, GIRLFIGHT by Karyn Kusama (which also won the Sundance Audience Award).
The San Diego Asian Film Foundation offers year-round programs. The Foundation is best known for its annual film festival, one of North America’s premiere Asian American film festivals. The 2008 film festival had a record attendance (nearly 18,000 film fans) and attracted celebrities, such as Academy Award-winning director Jessica Yu, Aaron Yoo (DISTURBIA, NICK AND NORA), John Cho (HAROLD AND KUMAR, STAR TREK), Leonardo Nam (SISTERHOOD OF TRAVELING PANTS), and YouTube favorite Christine Gambito of HappySlip.
This year’s festival will be held Oct 15-29, 2009.
There will be a minimum $1,000 cash prize for the 2009 Jury Winner. All films entered into competition are eligible for the jury prize. (Go for it!)
Early Deadline: April 30, 2009 ($25 fee)
Late Deadline: June 10, 2009 ($40 fee)
