With Wonder Girls taking a few-month-long break, this leaves new “rivals” Kara and Girls’ Generation vying for the spot as the top girl group in Kpop.

With the release of their latest mini-album Pretty Girl, Kara has been enjoying a lot more popularity. Unfortunately, it’s not enough. Girls’ Generation, on the other hand, has too much. Within only a few hours of the release of their latest single “Gee,” the song was #1 on countless Korean music charts and even managed to turn a lot of their anti’s into fans.

The reason Kara isn’t as popular is probably because they seem to be ripping everything off of Girls’ Generation lately. When they first debuted in early 2007, they were originally—according to DSP Entertainment—the “Second Fin.K.L” and had a R&B/Hip Hop concept, but when Girls’ Generation debuted, Kara failed, and Girls’ Generation took over. Once DSP Entertainment noticed this, they gave the girls a completely new concept. They hired the same music composers Girls’ Generation had been using, began dancing like them, dressing like them and even acting like them. They even have their own Tiffany of the group. It worked for awhile, but now that Girls’ Generation has returned, they’re right back at the beginning. Maybe in the future, Kara will finally get what they’ve been working so hard to achieve, but for now it looks like they’ll always be second to Girls’ Generation.
