Cowboy Bebop, an anime about a quartet of bounty hunters and their welsh corgi, is getting revamped into a live action film. Unlike previous anime to cinema adaptations, this movie is not a Japanese production. In fact actor Keanu Reeves, who will play lead Spike Spiegel, has initiated the project altogether. Fans of the series are worried that Hollywood won’t give their beloved show a fair shake and are skeptical about the casting so far. Knowing that Keanu Reeves is a fan of the show himself, his sci-fi acting experience (The Matrix trilogy), and that he does have an uncanny resemblance to Spike’s physique is keeping me optimistic.

Although their have been doubts with previous American anime remakes, this film has several of the original team such as Masahiko Minami (producer), Kenji Uchida (Sunrise president), Shinichiro Watanabe (director of animation), and Keiko Nobumoto (writer).

Hollywood is going to have a hard time taking the maze of finesse that is Cowboy Bebop. Due to the shows reputation there is no middle ground with success, either it will be a terrific rendition or a sloppy mess.
