Ningin Interview: the silly boys of ABDC’s Quest Crew - pt. 2

Welcome back, here is part 2 of the Quest Crew interview! In part 1 of the interview, I asked the boys about what they like to do in their downtime, but before we got the chance to get to Dominic, I had to ask about their favorite video games… Now, here are Dominic’s “hobbies,” in full glory:

DS: Hmm [laughs], well, I can’t play piano, I failed in school, I can’t cut hair, I can’t take pictures—
RC: —but what do you do in your downtime?
RF: He’s good at golf.

TJL: I hear you’re good at golf?
DS: Actually, in my downtime, I spend it a lot on RedTube—
[laughter all around]

DS: —mflicks, Mr. Chews is a good one… [You're going to have to Google these if these don't ring any bells... NOT at work.]
HK: Dude, oh my god!
[more laughter]

TJL: Is that off the record?
DS: I mean, it’s up to you… you’re the writer!

TJL: Hmm, okay.
DS: But honestly, I like to watch a lot of movies. I get inspired by smart ass people—NEXT question!
RC: He’s a really good comedian and good actor—
VK: —and he’s good with the ladies—
RC: —he has a very promising career in television—
HK: —he has a really funny face…
DS: I don’t hit on girls so much… whatchu doin’ later, girl?

TJL: Writing? Besides America’s Best Dance Crew, what do you guys see for yourself this year? Do you have any special plans or projects lined up?
DS: This [ABDC] was pretty much… Oh, besides this?! Oh yeah, yeah, we’re thinking about the future. Guys, why don’t you tell her.
RC: We’re having a party for Steven’s birthday
VK: Yeah, February 15.
ST: No, we’re just hoping that after the show we get to continue with what we were originally doing, which was just doing jobs, doing shows, straight up being a service to everybody, and hopefully, through this show, we’ll get better contacts, get out there more and have to push us to step it up and have to be more creative, come up with more material…
HK: If we can travel the world with that, that would be perfect.
All: Yeah, especially together.
DS: A lot of us travel a lot on our own, but it’s not as fun without the crew.
BH: Hopefully, we can inspire a couple of people out there.
All: Just two. Two would be cool.
HK: Three, that’s stretching it a little bit…
DS: We’re not trying to change the world here [in an affirmative voice].
All: Valentine’s Day… [mumbling]

TJL: Valentine’s Day? What was that?
All: He needs a valentine. Hopefully, we can find Dom a valentine.

TJL: Aww—
HK:—Wait, isn’t his boyfriend going to get jealous?
DS: Hok, are you jealous?
[laughter]

TJL: I see it, I see it… So, are you guys all based in Los Angeles proper or—
DS: —are you guys all gay, or, ah?
[laughter]

TJL: Haha no… Are you guys based in different cities?
RF: Basically, everywhere from Thousand Oaks to Irvine.

TJL: Oh wow, that’s a commute…
VK: Yeah, 80 miles around?
RC: But we all get together at Quest Learning Center in Artesia. That’s the midpoint for everybody. It works.

TJL: As far as next week—I don’t know if you guys can talk about it—
All: We don’t know what it is yet. We’re about to find out.

TJL: Except for the Britney Spears theme?
All: What, what, what? … … Oh, yeahyeahyeah!
HK: Oh, did he [Mario Lopez] announce it on the mic?

TJL: Yeah. I mean… (oh my god!)
RF: Okay, good. We just didn’t hear it. [It was pretty hard to hear Mario with the crowd going nuts.]
HK: No, no, it’s okay, they’re going to tell us more anyway.
DS: That’s perfect! It’s going to be fun for us. Nah. Nah, wait, that’s going to be hard because we’re a bunch of manly men—masculine!
[laughter, mock shock]
HK: You know, we’re just going to try our best.

Besides talent, what really holds this group together is their camaraderie. Above all else, this is a solid group of good-humored friends who support, encourage and respect one another, and it’s completely apparent in their performance chemistry and energy. After getting a glimpse of the mischief these boys conjure up off stage, it really is no wonder why they look like they’re always having so much fun when they’re in the spotlight. Nothing spreads smiles and laughter like people who are constantly having fun themselves; Quest Crew’s got that down pat.
