It’s been almost three months since my last upgrade post. Yea…things keep coming up. The Megaman Movie Trailer, the BoA interview, the End of the Year Special, America’s Best Dance Crew, drunken holiday parties + hangover recovery time, launching ZiggyTek — our gadget site, I was sick (no really I was), etc. In a way, it was kinda a perfect storm of events for Ningin as our growth has been skyrocketing from all those different things combined. Well, not the being sick and drunk part.

If you thought our Nov/Dec schedule was packed, our Feb/Mar calendar will easily blow that out of the water! Expect a lot of announcements in the next couple of weeks.

So January provided a bit of calm between storms, and we were able to sneak in a bit of coding and design upgrades. Deviating from our original plans of launching new areas of Ningin, we decided to improve our blogs to match our Community Page and Forums in design. (When I said a bit of calm, it really was only a bit of calm.) We also sprinkled in a few new features for good measure.

Most visibly, we’ve added color coding to our blog and forum comments. So comments from friends have a green background, bloggers are blue, admins are purple, and the blog or topic author appears with an orange background which supercedes everything else. Really the idea behind this was to help you easily find your friend’s comments and we just threw the other groups in there because we can. So if you don’t have many friends on Ningin, what are you waiting for? Go find people you like and add them!

All bloggers get their own page now. The URL will be along the lines of http://blog.ningin.com/bloggername. I.e. Tiffanie’s blog URL will be http://blog.ningin.com/tiffaniejlee. On each blogger page, you’ll only see posts written by the blogger as well as a lot of various personal information about him/her. It’s something we’re going to be expanding on in the future, but for now, this is how you would sort blog posts by author.

We’ve added the ability to quote other users and report comment violations. Quoting someone is as easy as clicking on the “quote” link underneath each comment. A special code appears instead of the full text so as not to crowd the comment box and the cursor automagically moves to the comment box. This feature also allows you to easily mass quote a group a people, but please don’t get crazy with it. As for comment violations, for the most part, we’ve been fortunate not to be hit with spam and other weird stuff or weird people. But on occasion we do get some, and in case our mods didn’t catch it, you can quickly and easily click “report” which pops up a spiffy box. If you’re logged in, most of the fields will be auto-filled for you.

Lastly, we’ve added mp3s to our blog capabilities. This doesn’t mean we’ll be hosting podcasts or anything. I’m personally not a fan of them, but it opens the door I suppose. Anyway, enjoy our Wonder Girls dance mix.

It’s probably going to be awhile before we get to other the other changes, but we’ll get there eventually!
