It’s spring couture week in Paris. Chanel’s couture collection this year is reminding me of a childhood (and adulthood) shortcoming: origami. Never could I master anything beyond the paper boat or hat. Naturally, I am blown away by the head pieces at Chanel’s couture show designed by Katsuya Kamo.

All of the head pieces were made entirely out of PAPER. I’m almost convinced that we’re being lied to…does that even resemble paper? Imagine the paper cuts! Perhaps the pieces are yet another sign of the times. Haute couture is generally characterized by the use of high quality, super expensive material. Paper, as I know it, isn’t too expensive—way to be resourceful, Chanel!

The head pieces have been creating quite a stir at couture week, so I googled Kamo and found a few examples of his exquisite couture hair and make-up work here. Kamo’s worked with Junya Watanabe, one of the biggest names in Japanese fashion (and the beyond). Color me not surprised! To view the entire Chanel Spring 2009 couture collection, click here.
