I guess I have something to look forward to in July. Provided it goes on schedule, a new statue of Mr. Sejong will be constructed in Gwanghwamun Plaza. I’m not exactly terribly fascinated with a statue, but considering who Mr. Sejong is, it’s kind of a big deal.
Sejong the Great, also known as King Sejong, fourth king of Joseon Dynasty, is one name most people in Korea had better know. He’s famous for bringing Hangeul, the Korean writing system, to Korea. Without him, we’d still be using Hanja. Not that it is a bad thing, but my poor brain is incapable of figuring out the differences in all those characters in the Chinese-influenced writing system.
Anyway, in July or whenever this project is finished, I shall go visit this new statue—even if I have to fight the bloody humid weather that time of the year.
