The 9th Annual Slant: Bold Asian American Images film festival is now calling for short film entries! In an effort to combat Asian stereotypes in the American media, Slant showcases an eclectic mix of the best emerging Asian American filmmakers. All genres are accepted. Entries must be postmarked by February 23. This year’s festival will be held May 30 & 31 at the The Aurora Picture Show in Houston, TX.

Slant is seeking all genres such as narrative, experimental, film or video art, documentary and animation. Filmmakers or film content should be Asian American or Asian Canadian. Short films are defined as 30 minutes or less. Submit your work on DVD or email a link to an online copy. Founding editor of Hyphen magazine, Melissa Hung will be curating!

In addition to your film, include:
Your name
Contact info (including address, phone numbers, and email)
Year the work was made
Original format of the work
Total running time
Brief filmmaker bio
Two-line description of your film
This list is not optional. Include all information requested or else.

The entry fee is $10 for up to three shorts. Send a check or money order made payable to “Aurora Picture Show.” Do not send cash. For those who fear mailing checks or money orders, you can pay the entry fee through PayPal to “Aurora Pictures Slant” here. Please include a printout of your Paypal payment in your submission. Please note that while Paypal is quick and easy, your entry must still make the postmark deadline!

And we can’t forget to mention that Slant pays its filmmakers!
Filmmakers are paid a screening fee of $4 per minute of film/video with a $40 minimum. Aurora also pays return shipping on films. (Nice!)
