Only three episodes are left in this season’s Randy Jackson’s America’s Best Dance Crew, and the question on everyone’s mind is which teams will end up in the final two. Tonight’s episode started with the final four raring to go in all inclusive collaborative number. The opening’s best part was when always-adorable Quest Crew took the floor next to forever fantastic Beat Freaks. Both teams interpret their skill so differently and yet each has their own sharpness that is a pleasure to watch. However, these two teams dominated the performance and the other crews didn’t shine; they seemed like they were there for backup. Thick anticipation rocked all the way through the opening performance; even the audience got involved.
Every moment of tonight’s episode was like a fireworks display, and the level of excitement and enthusiasm stayed like that throughout the competition like the smell of gunpowder. The episode’s challenges drew from the battle of the sexes theme, and that went along with each team getting a music video to draw inspiration from.
Quest Crew took the first spot for next week’s show and began their routine with their signature style: involved and fun choreography. Their performance, set to a mastermix of Chris Brown’s “Forever,” had the perfect flow. It was that smoothness that allowed the guys to smoothly fill each part with something interesting. Again, the guys were en pointe with their gymnastics and diverse movements. They worked the crowd with fun and humor, further proving why they are the ones to watch for the top spot.
Beat Freaks was next to find out their outcome for next weeks episode. Of course, as we all predicted, Beat Freaks were named the safe crew and got to take to the stage. A mastermix of “Hot N Cold” by Katy Perry accompanied the girl’s slick performance. The girls wiped their individuality ala Jabberwockee style by wearing cyborg/devo like costumes that covered their faces. The girls just have that professional unison and never spare us on coolness. Each moment is an intricate isolation that goes above and beyond the other teams.
The bottom two teams were Strikers All Stars and Fly Khicks. Of course, I am usually not impressed with these two teams as they are fluffer in comparison to other groups. They lack originality, and this week was no different as Strikers All Stars failed to impress with their choppy performance to a mastermix of Daddy Yankee’s “Posé.” The video of the song, which features season one winners, could have inspired an amazing performance, but the stomping crew just did not have the creativity to pull it off.
Fly Khicks was up next and opted out of their usual, sleazy choreography. The fact they opted for jeans over spandex made me really happy. The girls kept the sexy without going overboard and showed that they can actually pull off artistic ability. Their routine, set to “Pon de Reply” by Rihanna, definitely deserves third place status for this season, and the judges agreed.
Next week, the three teams will be Beat Freaks, Fly Khicks, and Quest Crew; this means two girl teams have the chance for the top spot—very cool! Although, I think whatever the Fly Khicks do, they will place third, and the two on top vying for first place will be Quest Crew and Beat Freaks.
