I’m glad I didn’t participate in an Oscars drinking game based on Slumdog Millionaire wins. With 8 Academy Awards under its belt including Best Picture, that would have made me one wasted Jinra. In all seriousness, 8 wins out of 10 nominations ain’t bad for Slumdog Millionaire. In addition to Best Picture, the film picked up awards for Best Director (Danny Boyle), Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Score, Best Original Song (’Jai Ho’), Best Cinematography, Best Sound Mixing and Best Film Editing! Color me not surprised.

Slumdog Millionaire wasn’t the only film that held it down for Asia at the Oscars. Yojira Takita’s “Departures” (Japan) picked up an Oscar for Best Foreign Langauge Film and Kunio Kato’s “La Maison en Petits Cubes” won an Oscar for Best Animated Short Film.

Here for a complete list of Oscar winners.

I loved this movie and thought it well-deserved the 8 Oscars it won. The cinematography was just tremendous and the story was interesting without being too terribly predictable. The music was brilliant, the actors were great, and the settings were perfect.  I’m real happy that it beat out Benjamin Button, which in my opinion is a vastly inferior movie and the only reason it got as much attention as it did is because of pretty boy Pitt. But what do I know? wink

i still need to watch this. add to my to-do list for summer.

slumdog millionaire was so touching and good! i love it

Really why?

Eh I thought it was okay.

It’s only been 3 months I think. lol

So? raspberry I’m surprised it’s still in theaters.

lol Glad you liked it. You’re only a few months late.

Just saw it. Loved it!

Maybe tacky is a better word.

Um...no idea. I haven’t seen a movie in awhile.

Yeah me too. It’s just a movie. And from the still it looks pretty ghetto.

Haha isn’t that the point? Ghetto = slums?

Best picture? Are you kidding me? I can’t imagine how it was even nominated. Couldn’t even last through the movie. Just saw Taken last night, now that was a movie, action, suspense, inrigue… Saw Doubt recently, great feeling, passion, thought provoking.

Tell me that the best picture nomination wasn’t driven by “other factors”. Please.

To each, their own!

Who decides who wins the awards?

Is there any other good movies out?

Yeah it was pretty good but honestly I’m sick of hearing about it.

My brother just saw it. He liked it. ^^

lol...it’s just an award. It’s not like it holds that much weight.

What do you mean by “other factors”?

Yeah I thought it was a good movie. I liked it better than Benjamin Button.

Funny that you’re the only one who seems to think that.

They’ve all seen it. haha

I haven’t been interested in the Oscars since 2007 when Rinko Kikuchi (BABEL) was robbed and THE DEPARTED won “Best (remake) Picture”.

No. I haven’t gotten over it.

I still have not forgotten that during one of The Departed’s wins, the Oscar announcer said it was a remake of a Japanese film. Fail. And Rinko was robbed again this year because Sky Crawlers was not nominated for best animated picture. Failfail.
