I’m glad I didn’t participate in an Oscars drinking game based on Slumdog Millionaire wins. With 8 Academy Awards under its belt including Best Picture, that would have made me one wasted Jinra. In all seriousness, 8 wins out of 10 nominations ain’t bad for Slumdog Millionaire. In addition to Best Picture, the film picked up awards for Best Director (Danny Boyle), Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Score, Best Original Song (’Jai Ho’), Best Cinematography, Best Sound Mixing and Best Film Editing! Color me not surprised.

Slumdog Millionaire wasn’t the only film that held it down for Asia at the Oscars. Yojira Takita’s “Departures” (Japan) picked up an Oscar for Best Foreign Langauge Film and Kunio Kato’s “La Maison en Petits Cubes” won an Oscar for Best Animated Short Film.

Here for a complete list of Oscar winners.

I can’t believe it won so many. How many was it nominated for again? 10? 15?

10

I am the only person who watches the red carpet before and then then shuts off the oscars??

I totally doubt it. There were rumors that producers wanted to cut the red carpet special short/asked A-list celebs to skip the red carpet so that it’d force viewers to actually watch the ceremony.

What other two didn’t they win?

Best Sound Editing (Dark Knight) and Best Visual Effects (Benjamin Button)

I haven’t been interested in the Oscars since 2007 when Rinko Kikuchi (BABEL) was robbed and THE DEPARTED won “Best (remake) Picture”.

No. I haven’t gotten over it.

That was 2007? It feels like that was just yesterday. Gah. I like shiny, sparkly things, so the Oscars are hard to avoid for me.
