Korean Title: 오이시맨 (Oishii Man)

The Blatherings: “Oishii” means “delicious” in Japanese. This new film is currently in theatres. It looks like a typical romantic comedy. We have a man named Hyeon Seok (played by Lee Min Ki), who used to be a famous singer, but he suffers from an ear condition, so he has to abandon his dream. Consumed by his inner struggles, he decides to escape Seoul without his pseudo-girlfriend Jae Yeong (Jung Yoo Mi) to Hokkaido.

There, he meets a weird woman by the name of Megumi (Ikewaki Chizuru) asking for a lighter, who runs some sort of an inn, and their relationship grows from then on. The two obviously fall in love, despite the language barriers. They apparently communicate in broken English, as seen in the trailer, with lines like she made a “bear” for him. I’m going to assume the film ends with the typical happily-ever-after ending.

To be honest, I actually would not mind watching this! It actually looks cute, it’s in Japanese, Korean, and in (bad) English, it deals with Japan, and it has music as part of the film’s theme. Now to me, those factors are a winning combination to urge me to try watching it. Seeing the trailer makes me want to watch it more! I probably would die laughing at that part where he’s teaching tone-deaf ahjummas to sing with metal pails over their heads, hahaha! Kind of reminds me of when I tried to teach high school beginning band how to play their first note — a memory I obviously do not exactly cherish!

sounds like cute love story.

oishii was like the first japanese word i ever learned.

They look so cute together.

There’s been Korean/Japanese movies in the past.

OISHIIIIIII!

It’s cool that they’re doing a Korean/Japanese movie. You would think the two hate each other.

Korean has the best melodramas. But sometimes they’re really weird!

Why are they wearing buckets? hahaha

Apparently the reverberation from the pails help them hear themselves better?  I’m more of an instrumental musician—not vocal—so I’m not entirely sure! XD

Are you going to go see it in theaters Tara?

Nope.  My schedule doesn’t allow me to trek down to the nearest Korean theatre.  Plus I am lazy and not in the mood to pay to go to a movie theatre—even if the won rate means it will only cost about four bucks instead of seven.  I’ll wait for the DVD or something.  XD

I’d watch it, I love a good love story no matter where it’s from.

Why Oishii man?

I wish I was in Korea. They have the best romantic movies. smile

Aw that was romantic.

Nice, I love language barrier films, too. “All About Love” is super good if you want to see more of that (stories between Taiwanese, Japanese and Shanghainese actors).

oo I hope someone subs it. ^^

I hate not being able to understand someone.
