Korean Title: 오이시맨 (Oishii Man)
The Blatherings: “Oishii” means “delicious” in Japanese. This new film is currently in theatres. It looks like a typical romantic comedy. We have a man named Hyeon Seok (played by Lee Min Ki), who used to be a famous singer, but he suffers from an ear condition, so he has to abandon his dream. Consumed by his inner struggles, he decides to escape Seoul without his pseudo-girlfriend Jae Yeong (Jung Yoo Mi) to Hokkaido.
There, he meets a weird woman by the name of Megumi (Ikewaki Chizuru) asking for a lighter, who runs some sort of an inn, and their relationship grows from then on. The two obviously fall in love, despite the language barriers. They apparently communicate in broken English, as seen in the trailer, with lines like she made a “bear” for him. I’m going to assume the film ends with the typical happily-ever-after ending.
To be honest, I actually would not mind watching this! It actually looks cute, it’s in Japanese, Korean, and in (bad) English, it deals with Japan, and it has music as part of the film’s theme. Now to me, those factors are a winning combination to urge me to try watching it. Seeing the trailer makes me want to watch it more! I probably would die laughing at that part where he’s teaching tone-deaf ahjummas to sing with metal pails over their heads, hahaha! Kind of reminds me of when I tried to teach high school beginning band how to play their first note — a memory I obviously do not exactly cherish!
