As you may (or probably may not) have noticed, I didn’t cover the ABDC finale because of the JYP Tour in LA, but I did hook us up with a guest blog/commentary from our friends at BakitWhy. Please join me in welcoming and thanking Jonathan Hernandez!

“It just became serious right now!” – Shane Sparks

What an understatement, Mr. Sparks, what an understatement…seriously. It’s the final episode – what more can you say?! Aside from the nerve-wracking final votes and decision looming over all of our heads for much of the show, the final episode is always such a feel good, celebratory time for all the crews and the fans; a moment just to revel in the joy and the blessing of dance. Seeing all the old crews return to the stage and meld all of their unique styles into some awesome routines is always such a great treat for everyone involved. We really get a final chance to remember and appreciate all of the diverse talent and styles that each crew possesses. In essence, the final episode is a dance fantasy…a final…fantasy. Here’s a recap of all the fun – and all of the shock.

And so the final episode finally arrived, and if you’re like me, your heart was pounding the whole way through in dire anticipation. For the first half of the show, we were once again reintroduced to some of our favorite crews who, at one point or another, captured our hearts and imagination – before they all got booted (I’m a mood killer, I know). Each judge coupled the nine different crews and divided them into three big groups, based on whose styles they believed would best fit together and produce a dynamic performance. Wait, wait, wait…I’m sorry. I’m watching the finale as I write, and I simply can’t go on in detail to cap off everything that happened because it would just be so anticlimactic, and I’m sure many of you wouldn’t want to read any superfluous stuff besides the fact that…

Ladies and gentlemen, QUEST DANCE CREW IS YOUR 2009 AMERICA’S BEST DANCE CREW!

Ok, ok, let me try and to gain some composure so I can conclude with some words of wisdom and…hyphiness. I’m so jittery right now! Wow, that was some finale. The best part of the show, for sure, was Quest Crew and Beat Freaks’ duo dance, which highlighted each crew’s infectious personalities and amazing talents so well against an awesome subway backdrop. Most of all, the final pose of Quest and Beat Freaks reaching for a bucket, begging for votes, was a Kodak moment kind of…moment. You just kind of got the sense that a final announcement of the championship winner was simply obligatory at that point, for what we saw on that stage tonight at that moment were two winners – two of America’s best dance crews. For the first time out of all three seasons, there really was no clear-cut winner, and really, no one knew which way the tides would turn for each of these crews. For the first time, those lights and suspenseful music tracks truly made your heart skip a ‘beat freak’ and gave your ‘quest’ butterflies.

In the end, Quest was crowned the champion in the midst of a very, very worthy group of Bgirls, who, at the very least, won their own title as America’s Best Female Dance Crew. Big props to the Beat Freaks for showing the world that the girls can hit it just as hard as the boys do (what ‘it’ is, I don’t know, but - tag, you’re it).

Ahh! Congratulations to Quest Crew for the epic, epic win! It couldn’t have happened to a more deserving group of creative, hilarious, and upstanding young guys. I’ve never met such humble, down to earth people in my life, and as many of you will soon realize when you get the chance to meet them in the upcoming months and years at the millions of shows they’ll be doing– they treat their fans like actual friends—ones they truly care about—and it’s a testament to how deeply they’ve touched the hearts of America. Oh yea, they dance pretty well, too, and can flip horizontally or…on their heads.

Well, that’s a wrap folks. We couldn’t have asked for a more exciting end to ABDC’s most competitive, eclectic season yet. Aside from our two champions, who captivated you the most? Speak out about this previous season, and tell us what you’d like to see more of and what kind of crews you hope to see next year because we’ve got some time to spare before season 4! For now, just dance (Mario writes my script, I swear).
