Big news for Asian American Jpop singer Yuna Ito this week — her new single “Trust You” was released on March 4 and has charted Top 5 on the Oricon charts in Japan! “Trust You” was picked as the ending theme song for anime Mobile Suit Gundam 00 Second Season. (Yes, Mobile Suit Gundam is still alive and kicking!)

I’ve personally got the second track “Brand New World” on heavy rotation. It’s a fantastic pop energy trance track that works great on the dancefloor or a karoke car ride down the interstate. Check out the preview below!

You might know Yuna Ito from her role in the movies NANA and NANA2, adapted from the popular manga series of the same name. She played fictional singer Reira in band Trapnest. In NANA, Reira was a beautiful and talented singer that was bilingual, or in other words, Yuna Ito is the real life Reira. “Endless Story” from NANA topped the charts and made Yuna Ito a star.

What you probably don’t know is that Yuna is another “Asian American in Disguise”. Yuna was born in LA and raised in Hawaii with parents of Japanese and Korean heritage. (Yuna=Euna, 由奈=유나)

Like many American-born Asian artists, Yuna was ready for stardom before America was ready for her. She’s part of a growing lineup of Asian American (and Canadian) artists like Wang Lee-Hom, Clazziquai, Joe Inoue, and Utada that hopefully can come home one day.
