Japanese Curry It was less than a decade ago; does that officially make me a geezer? I could go and ask my close friends if they were interested in grabbing some eats, and as any young adult knows, when it comes to deciding as a group it’s never going to be an easy task. I loved sushi ever since I had it at a function during high school, and I would constantly recommend it only to no avail. That made me a rather sad panda as the saying goes on the net these days. As recently as a couple of years ago, when talking to these same friends who in the past would describe sushi with such adjectives like “eww”, “yuck”, “no way”, and “are you loco” were now all into sushi to my amazement. In the past few years NYC has seen a lot of Asian fusion or dedicated eateries crop up in hotspots like the Lower East Side, Midtown, and Williamsburg. The big craze in the past few years being sushi, but within the past year a new trend has popped up, noodles!

Soups and noodles have come a long way in just the past year, to the point where in the most recent Chopsticks Magazine (local free monthly NYC magazine focusing on Asian culture) was dedicated to Japanese Curry, who would’ve thought it? I always loved curry and was delighted to see it being covered, although I had gotten accustomed to Indian style curry over the last 8 years, which is usually addictively spicy, Japanese curry has become a new favorite of mine due to its milder yet more flavorful style. With so many different styles and flavors to choose from, its hard to resist trying it out, even for those who worry about the spice. Curry Udon is this writer’s current favorite.
