Square Enix is famous for their RPGs and The Last Remnant is no different.
Releasing in 2 days, The Last Remnant revolves around the character Rush Sykes who is a sweetheart that loves his family. So when his sister Irina is kidnapped, his attempt to save her leads him to being caught up in the middle of a global war involving the “remnants”.
The remnants are ancient artifacts/weapons that poses amazing power. They come in different shapes with different powers and are bound to a ruler that uses their powers to protect their city. However when not bound, they can be uber destructive. If you haven’t guessed already, the world is of course magical with multiple races such as the Mitras (semi-humans), Yamas (fish people), Qsitis (reptilians) and the Sovannis (feline with 4 arms).
Like all Squenix games, The Last Remnant has some of the sexiest graphics so I recommend playing on an HD TV or monitor. Youtube does not do the trailer justice, even in HD. Also while I always prefer the Japanese voices, the English with British accents are very appealing and suiting.
Gameplay is based on a new battle system labeled by Hiroshi Takai (director) as a “turn-based, command-based system using symbol encounters.” Thankfully there are no random encounters; however, battles may consist of up to 70 enemies at once. Of course they won’t let you get ganked, your team or “union” will have multiple soldiers who’s skill is based on different aspects like the morale bar. Honestly it sounds like it would be annoying but I have high hopes nonetheless. Also another annoying aspect is that you’re expected to do A LOT of quests.
The game is already out in PAL version for Microsoft Windows; however, if you wait till March 24, the game will be here in the US. Despite it being a Japanese made game, Japan won’t see it till April 9th which is when the Playstation 3 version will be available.
