Comedian Stephen Chow may be funny (to some) in his movies, but dude is no fun to work with, at least according to some of the celebs who have worked with him before. Acting and Kung Fu heavy-weight (no pun intended) Sammo Hung was reported to have called Stephen “inhumane” in his treatment of his coworkers. Veteran Hong Kong actor Law Kar-Ying once said Stephen was too “money-minded”. This time, the latest criticism has come from the vice-chairman of China Star Entertainment Group, Tiffany Chen, who disclosed Chow’s evil manners in an interview.
According to the interview, Tiffany told reporters that working with Chow was a painful experience, and revealed that Chow once insisted actress Cecilia Cheung shave her head bald for a role, or demanded compensation of HK$3.5million (US$451,000). Shit, if someone threatens me with law suit of this amount, I would even shave my pubic hair. It helps reduce friction when it comes to swimming anyway (always looking at things on the bright side).
To these criticisms, Stephen remained nonchalant and is reported to have replied: “I don’t mind, whatever.”
As expected, others have come to his defense. I am sure these are bitches who want him to use them in his movies. These brown nosers include actor Tin Kar Man and Lam Tze Chung who claimed that “Stephen Chow is a god” and said that many times the rumors were created out of jealousy. I think not. I have heard others, like veteran actress Sandra Ng and director Wang Jing, who echoed the same sentiment as Sammo Hung, Law Kar-Ying or Tiffany Chen.
Obviously Stephen has let fame and success go to his head. He thinks he’s above everyone else hence he can demand things his way. In my opinion, this egoistic maniac has become less funny in his recent movies (remember CJ7?). Dude should just stick to his slapstick comedy instead of some deep philosophical shit he’s trying to pull as of late.
