I recently came across a site that a hosts hilarious history of light hearted humiliations. We have all had awkward experiences due to parental embarrassments, but now we are able to connect on sharing a similar background. MyMomIsAFob and MyDadIsAFob are two sites where those that share stories, photos, emails, and even text messages of immigrated irony.

F.O.B. has always been a term that showcases the negative aspects of migration. Originally an acronym for “fresh off (the) boat” it always focused on the differences of being born and raised abroad. The term at first was related to Europeans coming into Ellis Island, now it synonymous with the influx of Asians. These sites are relative to quirky idioms of having family from outside the US.

Hilarious and innovative are the listings on smart ways to us chopsticks for such as keeping your hands clean while eating greasy popcorn or making sandwiches for your child’s school lunch. From birthday card wishes, to visor wearing fashionistas these sites have an insightful goodhearted humor we can all giggle to.

NigaHiga, Happyslip too. But its endearing so everyone never be ashamed or look at taking the negative and turning it positive! Especially when it makes you MONEY! Look at rap music that took all the negative aspects of ghetto life and glamorized it and touched many many levels of people.

This can be that as well.

Some of my best friends ask me.. Do I looklike (or sound) a FOB and i lie and say NO. Then hug them for being adorable and cute and wonderful for even worrying about something so silly and trivial. Seriously im loving like 3 fobbish guys in my life! (PAUL HENY AND KANGSOO) totally hot!

I was sitting watching the latest BOF with my popcorn and a bunch of friends and we would whack our chopsticks everytime trying to get to the cheesiest popcorn! I finally gave us individual bowls! hahaha (I also added cheese doodles and pretzels. CHOPSTICKS ARE AWESOME!

lol I don’t know any Asian parents that speak English perfectly. Then again I don’t know very many parents.

Do you mean someone who has just crossed over? I know of some but they usually speak amazing british english. I have this one friend from korea who speaks like he is from manchester. I also think mai has a friend shes with at school who also has the same british english accent.

But all my friends that are asianamercian that are first generation us… usually speak to their parents broken english or their parents native langauge. So they switch from perfect awesome american english for me to broken english.. its really amazing to see.

No its not mean, its more a way to relate and showcase the funny side of being different in a earnest way. Us non-asian look at this as our Asian friends being lucky to share in something so adorable.

As for racist.. its more raceless. WE are all the same race. HUMAN. Human is the race we are. LOL! Everything else is semantics and categories of nationality and ethnicity.

This site.. eh… maybeis based on more people from asia or who are ethnically asian for now,.... but they are excepting stories from nonasians as well. 1st american gen stories from anyone who comes to a westernized country or to America and has something to share. So far they have up a story from an Italian Uncle but we will see more shortly from Russians and Polish and more.

I might even submit some. My grandfather came through ellis island and well lets just say he was a hoot!

I didn’t realize FOB was used for more than just Asians.

YES FOB was an a preexisting negative term. it is sad that every culture had to pay some sort of bullying dues and get called derogatory names by the ones that were already here. I believe it stuck in asian society because of the close knit communities that allow many immigrated people to slowly westernize and have that next generation.
