Here is yet another incident of racism and prejudices against people of Asian descent. I pulled out my lovely cell phone to look at some of headlines this past morning. Iowa Senator Grassley immediately grasps my attention with his fuming remarks against AIG. Who isn’t mad as hell at AIG these days?
Senator Grassley said in reference to AIG corporate executives, “I suggest, you know, obviously, maybe they ought to be removed,” Grassley said. “But I would suggest the first thing that would make me feel a little bit better toward them if they’d follow the Japanese example and come before the American people and take that deep bow and say, I’m sorry, and then either do one of two things: resign or go commit suicide. And in the case of the Japanese, they usually commit suicide before they make any apology.”
Senator Says ‘Resign’ or ‘Suicide’ for AIG
Now you know that is a racist remark. Yes Japan has its suicide problems, like any nation does and especially in this day and time with rampant recession all over. I was completely offended when I read it, because Senator Grassley has equated an act with an entire nation of people.
This is even worse coming from a so called political leader of one of our fifty states. The mindset that Senator Grassler has is poison that infects the minds of the people who look up to him. Maybe after his racist remarks he will be seen in a different light by some. But mostly people will just let it brush by their ears and remain silent, because it was done in all fun and jokes.
