The Japan Society really has outdone themselves with their latest exhibit “KRAZY!”. At first I was sure this was just going to be a one room gallery of animation cells, but “KRAZY!” is so much more.

They have several rooms dedicated to different facets of exported Japanese media such as manga, anime, and video games. One cool aspect of the exhibit is that it’s interactive and rooms are set up to influence the senses. The whole set up is just many levels of pure coolness from listening to anime OST’s of legendary Yoko Kanno or checking out the game consoles you can actually play! Besides the art show, there is a manga library and over a dozen super projections that simultaneously play various Films.  KRAZY is definitely an awesome time to be had by all that leads me to the evening of KRAZY! cosplay.

I was very honored to be part of the staff for KRAZY’s cosplay evening. The line of colorful costumed clad fans were lined up all along 47th street. People were there from all ages and some even came from out of state just to attend. The actual contest took place in a packed auditorium and was filled with hoots and screams for some of the most amazing designed costumes. What was really fun to see is the diversity of ethnicity and age among the attendees. Parents raised on anime proudly dressed up with their kids who are also new fans of the media. One parent was even dressed as Kaede from Inuyasha. It was all truly impressive. I cannot wait for most cosplay parties and events and hope to see you all there. So check out KRAZY its really worth the trip!
