With the announcement of the girl Big Bang equivalent, the digital single “Lollipop” has been released along with the new name of the four member girl group. YG Entertainment has decided to name this new upcoming girl group 21. The reason? The age 21 is a fresh age, never old and always wins a game of blackjack. The group name symbolizes that the girls will never lose whatever challenges come their way. Hm… Are these girls even 21? Well, a name is better than nothing. More »

Here is yet another incident of racism and prejudices against people of Asian descent. I pulled out my lovely cell phone to look at some of headlines this past morning. Iowa Senator Grassley immediately grasps my attention with his fuming remarks against AIG. Who isn’t mad as hell at AIG these days? More »

Oricon recently asked over 1,000 Japanese men and women which celebrity they found to have the most dramatic/interesting lifestyle. Unsurprisingly, Erika Sawajiri was chosen as the #1 most dramatic celebrity. The 22 year old actress/singer/model/drama queen has been making headlines ever since 2005, whether it’s by her underage drinking, marriage to a man twice her age, one of her countless bitch fits, or simply existing, her endless scandals keep Japanese reporters and paparazzi following her like sheep — despite the fact that she hasn’t done any kind of work in nearly two years. Some of the voters commented saying “Erika’s life should be made into a movie.” and “She is the only person who’s able to live a life like that.” More »

Not kidding. A man by the named of Jun Ando (computer programmer) punched a 50 year old woman after she asked him to stop playing games on his cell phone because of the overly crowded train.

Anger management ju say yo? Ando ended up giving the woman several punches to the face and a broken jaw. And it didn’t stop there! After being restrained by other passengers, he continued to punch her while waiting at the police station. Ando admitted to punch the woman but said that there’s nothing he can do about the crowded trains. More »

Wonder Girls are in Korea now, but they answered questions from Ningin readers over email. Originally we were going to ask your questions in a video interview. Unfortunately, both Wonder Girls’ and Ningin’s schedules didn’t work out before they left for Korea.

We got a lot of questions sent in from Ningin readers. In the end, we picked 10 questions to send the Girls. Do you see one of yours? More »

The upcoming cosplay contest judging panel not only has some of Ningin’s team members but also professional cosplayers India Davis and Elizabeth Licata from cosplay Team USA (photo left).

Both based in New York City, these girl share a passion for cosplay fashion. While most of us just scramble last minute to put together a cosplay outfit, these girls actually make their own by hand. Without a doubt these girls have talent. More »

Ladies, if your husband wants to divorce you, you hire some good ass lawyer and make sure that the bastard will have nothing left but his skid mark underwear when you guys are through with the divorce. You don’t do what Helen Sun did to her husband.  Apparently bitch was so upset with her husband for wanting to divorce her that she handcuffed him to her and started biting his arm. She could have bitten his peen, but wanted to save his family’s jewel in case they patched things up. So she went for his arms instead. More »

DannyChoo has a knack for finding awesome/bad ass trailers, like this for the upcoming anime series Cat Shit One (CSO).

The anime series CSO was adapted from the manga series. It was republished into a parody film for the US but renamed to Apocalypse Meow. It’s been released in several other countries such as Poland, France, Belgium and Spain. Who doesn’t love bunnies kicking ass? More »

Tze Chun, one of Ningin’s favorite filmmakers, has his acclaimed film “Children of Invention” screening at festivals across America in the coming weeks. “Children of Invention” world premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, and just recently won the Special Jury Award at the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival. In case you missed it, we interviewed Tze back in January while he was preparing for Sundance. You can read the interview here. More »

There have been female “Big Bang” groups in the past but now there’s an official one (supposedly).

Yet to be named, the group is made up of four girls, Park Sandara, Park Bom, Gon Min Ji and C L. Their first digital single is “Lollipop” where they seem to pose in a unique colorgasm fashion. Their debut will be through a LG Cyon Commercial with the “Lollipop Phone”. Nothing like a sponsor to back up your game. The official MV is set to release within the next few weeks; however, the official debut won’t be until May.

Now the final contest in this JYP/Wonder Girl campaign is over. Funny, it seemed like yesterday when we started all this, but it’s been seven weeks. It’s hard to measure how many new Wonder Girl fans were created through the collective efforts of everyone who participated in these contests, but I do believe the Wonder Girls are definitely closer to crossing over into the US media. However, there’s still a lot to do and Wonder Girls could always use more fans. Keep spreading the word about the Wonder Girls and making new Wonderfuls! More »

I recently came across a site that a hosts hilarious history of light hearted humiliations. We have all had awkward experiences due to parental embarrassments, but now we are able to connect on sharing a similar background. MyMomIsAFob and MyDadIsAFob are two sites where those that share stories, photos, emails, and even text messages of immigrated irony. More »

I have a dirty little secret to tell. I have a very strange and inexplicable attraction to a well dressed long haired japanese 30 something year old man. Despite whatever just passed through your brain back there, you’ll forgive me to know that this is my almost platonic tribute to Kimura Takuya, Japan pretty boy extraordinaire. More »

For the second consecutive time, Japan has won the World Baseball Classics. Considering there’s only been two, it’s a pretty impressive feat made even more so by downing their archrival South Korea. For you none baseball fans this rivalry is the equivalent of Lakers vs Celtics, USC vs Texas, and Republicans vs Democrats in their respective sports. More »

Finally, “This Is The One” comes out in the US today via digital download. We’ll still have to wait until May 12 to buy the hard copy CD. Don’t ask me why. I mean, the CD has already been released in Japan! While we wonder, you can download the sultry “Come Back To Me” video for free in the iTunes Store right here. (It’s like an arty version of “Easy Breezy”… is that good or bad? Download and decide!)

I’ve had the album in heavy rotation in my iPod and my conclusions are as follows: More »

Se7en has left New York City. Life has returned to normal here, but it was one crazy weekend. Jeanette Eng and I managed to sit down with Se7en for some sun and fresh air overlooking Fifth Avenue. We almost didn’t catch it on camera because of a faulty microphone, but Dan Fisher came thru for us in the clutch. He was the official videographer for Se7en’s NYC visit. The man flew all the way out from Seattle. No joke. I don’t want to bore you with camera talk, but Dan knows his stuff. And who wouldn’t want to have his job? More »

We all know times are tough. We are looking for ways to cut our spending and eating out is one of them. Citysearch has put together a very cool website that lists the cheap eats in the major metropolitan areas in the States. You can search for all kinds of food priced at $3.99 or less. By the way, Chinatown has been serving meals for $3.99 or less for years. I guess the other places are finally catching up!

You can check out the website here

Ningin reader Danny Truong sent us this recap of BoA’s visit to the Hollywood Universal City Walk last Saturday…

From early morning, crazy, dedicated BoA fans lined up to get their green wristband for the chance to meet and greet the Asian wonder of the world. The wait was long, but once you got a wristband, you could freely roam with your buddies, shop around the stores, get a bite to eat or meet new fans just as crazy as you are! During the wait, we were shown an advance viewing of the “I Did it for Love”- Making of Video, never seen on the internet before. More »
