Put on a rubber, nee? ♥

Zange-chan of dancing singing godly cosplayingly awesome anime Kannagi has her likeness adorn a clever product, recently introduced at Kannagisai, an exclusively-Kannagi doujin event. More »

In one of the most (and last) blatant wastes of time ever for your viewing pleasure, I have assembled here some of the most interesting lookalikes known to asian stardom. The music industry has had its share of close calls, but none like those among asians. Among the millions of selections I could of made, I have brought to you today 4 rounds of pure coincidence (plastic surgery?). Are you fan enough to survive them all? Does this prove that we all like the same people? You decide. More »

What an eventful week! Not only did Ningin cover the JYP Tour 2009 but also threw a prerelease party for pop princess BoA.

Remember, it’s not too late to preorder your BoA album on Amazon! Only 2 more days left to get some awesome giveaways from Ningin!

Here’s this week’s wrap up! More »

We meant to get to this last week, but between BoA and Wonder Girl stuff, we were really busy these past few days.

I hope you Beat Freaks fans aren’t too upset for not winning season 3! Both Quest and Beat Freaks were awesome crews and the winner really could’ve gone to anyone. I’m sure we’ll be seeing more of Beat Freaks in the future and Ningin will be there to cover it. More »

This was another super popular contest. It’s too bad we don’t have more Utada stuff to give away. It’s even more unfortunate she doesn’t do many concerts and performances. But we’ve been in touch with her label and publicist so hopefully some things will work out. More »

If one were to paint an image of internationally renowned artist David Choe using only a palette of psychological disorders, you’d have yourself a portrait of schizophrenia, kleptomania, manic depression and sex addiction. Harry Kim’s documentary “Dirty Hands: The Art and Crimes of David Choe” isn’t so much this portrait, but a full-length visual collage of the genius that is David Choe. As an artist who proclaims he, “makes art for people that don’t give a fuck about art,” this documentary is a documentary for people who don’t normally watch documentaries. Think MTV’s “Jackass” but with an intellectual, cultural spin. More »

A big thanks to the BoA fans that came out to Club Touch in NYC last nite! It was awesome to hear “Look Who’s Talking”, “Eat You Up”, “Touched”, and “Energetic” on the big sound system. I won’t forget when the cheers went up from the dancefloor when we started off with “Look Who’s Talking” then going straight into a special video edit of “Eat You Up”. My favorite was “Touched” which got a response of “This track is hot!” from the DJ crew. More »

It’s White Day, folks! I hope all you ladies (and guys, too!) have something special to give to your significant others. It’s celebrated in Japan and South Korea, but I’m sure anybody in the world can follow this holiday. I almost forgot about White Day until a friend reminded me. Although, it seemed kind of pointless to do so when I have no man to give anything to. More »

If I lived in an East Asian country that celebrated White Day, I’d boycott it. Not because I’m bitter and single–I’m not–but because I think love should be celebrated by EVERYONE and not exclusive to just heterosexual couples. It’s an unfair holiday for same-sex couples, who are largely considered tabooed second-class citizens in Japan and Korea. I can imagine that for same-sex couples, this holiday means giving chocolates to each other under the pretense of being “just friends,” when their relationship is much more than friends and on a level that is unacknowledged by society. That’s not cool — love is for everyone. If you think so, too, check out the following organizations that support LGBT rights in East Asia: More »

Ahhhh yes, love is once again in the air, your beau has sent you more chocolates than (s)he’ll ever find out you didn’t eat and that mysterious brown mold collection from Valentine’s Day isn’t getting any smaller. In the spirit of the infamous White Day - and just in case you were living under a rock - let us take an enlightening journey to the other V-Days of East Asia. More »

Title: Thank You for Saving My Life Artist/Composer: Jo Gyu Chan & Brian McKnight Album: Thank You for Saving My Life (One+One) Blurbs: Because of White Day, here’s another . . . mushy song, haha. I was at a coffee shop with a friend a few days ago, and this song came on. It took me a minute to remember what song it was, and I practically screamed, “OMG! This song! I haven’t heard it in ages!” This song came out a couple months after I started my junior year, and my best friend and I were crazy about it. More »

Happy Friday the 13th! So far my bad luck has consisted of getting sick and horrible weather. But that doesn’t mean all of you going out tonight have to suffer! I hope everyone attending the BoA party tonight enjoys themselves because I won’t be there myself.

Anyways here this week’s wrap up! I’m making this short this week because I lack sufficient health. More »

Deep from the recesses of our most perverse imaginations comes the beverage we’ve all been waiting for - Tentacle Grape! In a brilliant marketing move that bottles seemingly pedestrian grape soda into an irresistibly appealing package, Mnemosyne has this to say about their new product: More »

This Sunday, Kinokuniya Bookstore in New York City will host Anime Day, an all day event for anime, manga and cosplayers. Our friends from the New York Anime Festival and Japan Society will be on hand to talk about NYAF and KRAZY! I’ll be there too with Ningin’s new anime authority Michael Latorre! Keep an eye out for us and say hello! More »

China’s censorship efforts were recently hadouken’d by internet material about the mythical “grass-mud-horse” creature. Understandably, it seems like just another day in China’s war against all things arbitrary… but the amazing thing about the grass-mud-horse phenomenon is that it managed to bypass China’s “profanity and vulgarity” scanning system. For those of you who speak Mandarin, sound out the pin yin for grass-mud-horse (草泥馬)… go on, don’t be shy. More »

I’m back in NYC after following the JYP Tour from LA to OC to NYC — Coast-to-Coast, baby! I’ve finally recovered but I don’t even know where to start. So what do you do when words escape you? Make a video! That’s right, watch the JYP Tour 2009 Highlights while dancing to “Nobody”! More »

Ningin has been growing very fast and we’re looking to expand our staff. Specifically we need a Web Design Intern who is very knowledgeable about Web Design and Blogging.

Ideal candidates are hard-working and energetic college students who seek a hands-on experience working on all facets of new media — editorial, advertising, operations and business development — and can handle a fast-paced environment. You will work directly with Lan, our Senior Designer, as well as other team members on an as-needed basis on a mix of editorial research, content management and other projects that pop up. More »

Sunday’s JYPE concert was hosted at the historic Hammerstein ballroom in NYC.  Despite many technical issues that plagued the performance, the talented troupe at JYPE put on a successful concert. The beginning of the concert started with the beautiful Lim Jeong Hee addressing the audience flawlessly in English. The singer, who now goes by the stage name J-Lim, also sang an English version of her song “Music is My Life”. Due to the fact we only got one song from the singer was really disappointing. J-Lim may not be as teenage-idol as the other JYPE performers but she deserves more than just one song. Missing from this concert was Min and G-Soul, many fans wondered where did these once hyped trainees go? More »
