Pointing and laughing at crowds of fan girls and boys hoping to get a glimpse of their favorite JYP Tour performer and/or occassional chain-smoking back-up dancer? Guilty as charged. Worry not, JYP fans. Last night in my native land Orange County, I was sentenced to two and a half hours of fanatical screaming in my ear! Before you condemn me to JYP hell, consider this: My ability to lose my cool over celebrities has been significantly depleted by age. This however, isn’t to say that I didn’t have a good time. More »
Title: 그대만이 (Guh Dae Manee = Only You) Artist/Composer: 류 (Ryu) Album: 겨울연가 (Winter Sonata) OST Blurbs: I actually had this song stuck in my head the last couple of days. This is one of the few songs I like from the entire soundtrack. It’s a good thing I like this song, since there are two extra variations: the piano version and the piano/violin version. All three are quite beautiful in their own way. On an entirely different note, I sort of figured out how to play it on the piano, but I need to figure it out more! Of course it would help if I had a piano in my possession that wasn’t out of tune! Regardless, enjoy this week’s pick! More »

Though the Wiltern is a historic LA landmark (one of the last-standing art deco buildings) and is the home to some of the best concerts you can catch on the West Coast, it’s a mid-sized venue that’s not really conducive to a barrage of million-member pop groups. Amazingly enough, JYP and co. still managed to do their thing on the relatively small stage. From the Wonder Girls and their sweeping dance numbers to 2PM and their bboy acrobatics, the stage withstood the lovely assault. More »

As you may (or probably may not) have noticed, I didn’t cover the ABDC finale because of the JYP Tour in LA, but I did hook us up with a guest blog/commentary from our friends at BakitWhy. Please join me in welcoming and thanking Jonathan Hernandez!

One of Edison Chen’s sex photo scandal victims Cecilia Cheung recently appeared in an exclusive interview with Hong Kong cable TV channel I-Cable and boy was she pissed. Homegirl’s tirade against that prick was seen by millions of viewers in HK, who all were looking forward to this interview since this was the first time Cecilia had spoken even since her scandalous pictures surfaced on the web. The interview was broken into two parts and the first part was aired last Friday. The cable TV channel also made the sudden decision of shelving the concluding half of the interview following the telecast of the first part. Oh, please don’t keep us guessing! I bet Cecilia told the interviewer that jackass here ejaculates prematurely and his peen curves to the left when erect. More »

The current fan cheer for “Nobody” is a little different than the others due to the lack of Korean vocab. The cheer, itself, creatively takes place through-out the entire song, so let’s go over the lyrics okay?
The areas italized are the chant parts to study and the underlined lyrics have much more emphasis when you say them. The areas in bold are parts of the cheer that are not in the original lyrics. I will put the translation in English at the end and romanize Korean lyrics along with the first set of lyrics. (excuse my english translation I am trying to make it as colloquial as possible.) Quest Crew and Beat Freaks were in it to win, but there can be only one winner of Randy Jackson’s America’s Best Dance Crew. All nine original competing crews came back to participate in tonight’s finale. Seeing these crews again reminded me that none of them made it easy for us, each crew in their own way represented the best. The audience was filled with anticipation on who the voter’s would give the title to. Which team would join the ranks of Jabbawockeez and Super Crew greatness? More »

Not only is the Apop star busting a move but she’s flaunting a sexy new style that we’ve never seen before. Could this possibly be the video that pushes BoA to the top? Hope so! BoA and SM Entertainment are definitely stepping up their game for BoA especially with the album release only a few weeks away (March 17th).

Over this past weekend, I attended an Asian American conference called ECAASU, which stands for East Coast Asian American Student Union, in New Brunswick, NJ. It was hosted by Rutgers University. It sounded very interesting, so I caravanned up there with some friends from the colleges of Old Dominion and VCU, coordinated by Janille De Guzman, Yul Kwon’s personal assistant. We had a great time learning and networking. I spoke with Calvin Sun of ECAASU National about ECAASU’s background. More »

So you love the song “Tell Me”, but due to your two left feet, cannot figure out how to do the dance. Well never fear for thanks to the Wonderfuls, you can still show support in another way.
So far we’ve learned how to chant to “So Hot” and now we’ll learn a new chant that is quite similar. This chant begins at the very first beat of the song and continues within particular lines in SoHee’s verse, Yoobin’s Rap and the chorus. So be sure to partake in these creative cheers when you see them perform live this weekend! More »

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be a piece of undesirable sushi sitting on the rotating conveyor belt of a sushi restaurant? You’re probably fifteen-minutes-old, and you keep going round and round on the conveyor belt. Diners only look, point and make fun of you, but none of them will pick you up and dip you in the wasabi mixed soy sauce. Now, that’s pretty sad for the life of a sushi, if you ask me. More »

We all know that Korean idol fan clubs corner the market on fan prowess. During live performances, loyal and dedicated fan club members, who are in the audience, find creative ways to support their idols. This is especially true for the Wonder Girls’ fan club Wonderfuls. This grouping of darling fans has organized their own rhythm timed cheers with our favorite Wonder Girls tunes, and with the US concert coming up in less than a week, wouldn’t it be fun to cheer along? Who here is a fan of Winter Sonata (겨울연가 = Gyuh Ool Yun Ga), that famous South Korean drama that made Bae Yong Joon (Yon-sama!) and Choi Ji Woo popular? I’m not, but after reading this article about Namiseom (Nami Island), I discovered a new place to visit one day. See, Namiseom is the place where Winter Sonata was filmed. Due to the drama’s popularity, the place boomed with tourisms. To attract more tourists, Namiseom’s officials are offering free admissions to foreigners who visit the site from February 28 to March 8. I would like to visit. The location in the drama really was a gorgeous place, so I would love to see if it’s really as beautiful as the drama portrayed it be. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to check it out while the admission is free; luckily, admission isn’t too expensive if I choose to go at a later date. More »
