Three months ago, South Korean officials arrested “Minerva” — a South Korean blogger– on the basis of bearing malicious intent against the South Korean government, yadada, by spreading false rumours across the Internet. Well, booyah to the paranoid folks! The court decided that Park Dae Sung aka Minerva is NOT guilty. This calls for a celebration in my opinions.
But now I can’t help but wonder how this guy’s life is going to be from now on and into the future. I see his life going down two routes. Route A is where he will be seen as a hero of some sort, and he will be asked for opinions by the economic dudes and dudettes. Route B is that he will be scorned by society and will be shamed by the Koreans. I do hope the first route occurs. I’d hate for route B to happen, but knowing how much of a collective society Korea is . . . I wouldn’t be surprised by it. However, I’m crossing my fingers and am wishing Park the best.
