Superglorious presented a the spectacular Electric Makossa concert at the famous Webster Hall in downtown NYC. A night that seemed to be stuck in the awesome 80s with lots of style, funk, and groove. Although there was a slight detour with the excellence of one of my favorite bands also performing, it all seemed to click together from beginning to end. On a day of heavy rain it seemed like it would be a slow night, but it didnt keep the crowd from coming out, and like any night at Webster Hall, it got packed relatively quick. More »

Much to my neighbors loss of peace and quiet, I just spent tonight getting rocked by Chatmonchy’s “Restaurant Main Dish”. The all girl trio of rockers released the two disc live DVD set in November 2008 and I finally got my hands on it! The first DVD is Chatmonchy’s concert from April 1, 2008, at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo. More »

You can’t blame these two meemaws for being so happy. They are in a penis freaking heaven! Apparently the locals in Kawasaki, Japan love penis so much that they throw a festival every year to honor the male gential. Known as Kanamara Matsuri (translated as “The Festival of The Steel Phallus”), the festival is centered around a local penis-venerating shrine. Today the festival is held to raise money for HIV research. More »

Ningin reader Penguin Dude sent us a recap of his awesome backstage and on-stage experience with the Wonder Girls in New York City…

I arrived at the Manhattan Center Studio a little before 4pm for rehearsal with the other YouTubers. After we all met, we were give instructions about exactly when and what we were going to perform. We all started practicing “Nobody” and were teaching it to those who didn’t know the dance as well. More »

It’s been a month since we took our Social News system offline. Originally it was only suppose to be down for two weeks, but web development is just like construction in that delays are inevitable.

The shutdown wasn’t just for a redesign, rather a complete overhaul of the Social News application. You see, we’ve learned quite a bit from the data gathered over the past year and this revamping is a result of that research. More »

Just got back from the JYPE office and picked some stuff up. Seems like we make a trip there every week. Perhaps we’ll setup a sub office there at some point. No, we probably won’t.

Hmm, no real point to this blog post. Just wanted to share this: More »

Japan has a knack for building the most amazing things. For example, the worlds ONLY indoor beach.

Built in Miyazaki, Japan, the Ocean Dome is always sunny, salt-free, shark-less and perfectly temperature year around. It’s basically all the things you like about the beach. There’s even a volcano that spits out fake flames occasionally. Oh and there is a retractable roof! While I love the sun, I don’t think Hawaii can beat this bad boy. More »

If you get my drift. Tenga is a company well known for making “special products” for your special parts. Most recently they made an egg. Odd? Yes but it is still one of the most unique items I’ve ever seen.

The Tenga Egg is encased inside an egg (just like Easter) which holds the egg shaped rubber and some “sauce”. I’m sure you can guess how to use both of them. If not, don’t expect me to teach you. If you’re wondering if the rubber will “fit”, no worries! The rubber is uber stretchy and can wrap itself around an iPod. More »

Doosan Bears and Kia Tigers that is. At Jamsil Stadium yesterday April 5th, the girls of SNSD showed off more than just their singing skills - Yuri pitched for the 2nd time, Seo Hyun batted, and Sunny sang the national anthem. They surprisingly did ok for a bunch of girls, maybe they’ll start a kpop baseball league? Nothx.

Unluckily for the Kia Tigers, SNSD was only showing love for the Bears by wearing their official jerseys. Too bad they didn’t wear the whole uniform. More »

While riding on trains, people tend to fall asleep easily which sometimes lead to drool. Disgusting right? Well this guy didn’t fall asleep or drool but instead wiped his saliva on a woman sleeping next to him on a Keihin Tohoku line train in Japan. More »

Move over William Hung. Move WAY over. Make way for the the latest American Idol contestant to have really captured my attention since Kelly Clarkson: Anoop Desai. Commonly referred to as “Noop-Dogg” by Randy Jackson, he’s one of few Asian Americans to make it this far into Season 9’s Top 8 spot. With his likeable boy-next-door quality and vocals smooth enough to undress me at first note, I can see potential for Desai to go far into the competition. More »

Guys, meet Bobby Trendy, undeniably the biggest Asian freak show. Bitch seems really serious about the famewhore game and would pull out all stop to get the attention of the pappers. Just look at that damn outfit! I bet even Bai Ling would think twice about wearing this. This ensemble is a train wreck and that poor tortured dog he’s holding knows it.  Poor embarrassed pooch has to turn away from the camera and is contemplating a suicide to escape this mess! More »

It’s Sakura Matsuri time again! And that means hanami, the act of going out and admiring cherry blossoms. The most famous hanami hotspot in America is the National Cherry Blossom Festival. It’s going on now in Washington, DC, and the blossoms are said to reach their peak this weekend. With clear skies and temperatures in the high 50s Saturday and high 60s Sunday, it’s a great weekend to visit DC! The annual spring event celebrates the gift of Japanese cherry trees from Tokyo Mayor Yukio Ozaki to the city of Washington, DC. (Back in 1912!) More »

A woman recently fell to her death on a golf course in Hokkaido, Japan. Apparently, a sink hole had opened unexpectedly due to faulty management. The sink hole was 1.5 meters wide and 5 meters deep. Japan investigators are still looking into the matter.

Quite unfortunate and random. I assume it only opened up as she stepped on the area. While I could make a ton of jokes, I think its safe to say there’s nothing funny about this incident. More »

The heart of K-town Manhattan has a great jazzy hotspot that occupies the 4th floor of #23 west 32nd street.

J’z is an intimate, over 21, musical haunt right above the restaurant Wonjo. I’ve been to this establishment a couple times already, and it always gets more enjoyable every time I visit. This last Saturday the bar hosted 3 back to back musical acts to a standing-room-packed house. More »

Handsome actor Roger Fan caught my eye as the new face of Verizon Wireless commercial.

Roger Fan has played in the movies such as Better Luck Tomorrow, Finishing the Game, Rush Hour, Corky Romano, Annapolis, and the latest installation of the Fast and the Furious. This is one commercial I will be looking forward to seeing every time I turn on the television. More »

Without counting my Tokyo trip last May, I finally ventured out of Seoul for the first time in years — five to be exact. On April’s Fool Day, I went on a quick day trip to visit someone in Gumi, a city in Gyeongsangbuk-do area, which happens to be near Daegu. The trip took two hours by the KTX trains (my first time on the KTX!) after leaving the “dreaded” Seoul Station. What’s my verdict about the KTX? Well, it’s certainly fast, and for 28,000 won for a normal ticket (equivalent to about $23), it’s worth it. More »

Happy April everyone! It’s almost Summer and I can hardly wait. Is anyone else tired of this switch back and forth between cold and warm weather?

Moving along, hope you caught the screening of Fast and Furious 4 last night because it was bad ass. If you haven’t seen, go see it. It’s going to be a weekend hit and probably be no. 1 in the box office for the whole month.

Enjoi! More »

Spring Break has finally sprung, and the best crews of MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew are still on everyone’s hot list. Many of these teams will visit the greater tri-state area for ultra-hot 18+ club events. The first of these awesome evenings is this Sunday, April 5th with season one’s KABA MODERN! The party starts at 7pm at Touch nightclub and if that isn’t enough for you, the team from Kaba Modern will also have a meet and greet for the first 100 guests who purchase their tickets online. Even cooler, buying tickets online will not only get you photo ops but also will get you a 5$ discount off the entrance fee too. More »
