Yes… the goddess of elegance and beautiful voice has descended to perform a buddhist song for a buddhist ceremony in the Famen Temple in China this week. Retired a few years ago, Faye Wong rarely makes any public appearances much to his fans’ disappointment. However, being a devoted buddhist , she would make the exception to perform and sing buddhist chants occasionally. This is usually when her fans rejoice and frantically search for a clip of her performance on youtube.

I’ll bet any amount of money that Se7en has a girlfriend. Even Usher has girlfriends from time to time. A lot of celebs pretend not to be in relationships to seem more attractive to the fanbase because you know, celebs think their fans are stupid. Ok perhaps not the celebs themselves but the people who manage them. Here’s a photo of Se7en and long-rumored “girlfriend” Park Han Byul. True or not, the “mystery” probably makes Se7en more attractive to his female fan base, or at least that’s what the label is probably thinking.

We just got word from Utada’s publicist that Utada has postponed all of her in-store appearances this week. Utada’s been diagnosed with an acute case of relapsing peritonsillitis. (I’m not a doctor but I think in simple English that means she has a tonsil infection.) We were told that under doctors orders she has to take it easy for two weeks, then she should have a full recovery. More »

Currently known in Hollywood as the man who’s character outlasted *Ryan Reynold’s in the Wolverine movie, Daniel Henney seems to have gotten himself a piece of the prime time TV pie. He’s recently filmed the pilot episode of CBS’ drama “Three Rivers,” where he’ll be playing a transplant surgeon. Sound familiar, sort of? He played a doctor in 2005’s hit drama, “My Name is Kim Sam Soon.” I ain’t complaining. Seeing my baby-daddy in O.R. scrubs? Beat still, my palpitating heart! …Literally. More »

Cheekybodacious is now 3 for 3 since we started doing this promotion. Can anyone challenge him? Misters0freshh, you were a close second, perhaps next week. Choochi rounds out the top 3, though Siralop7 made a strong push on Saturday to jump from 8th to 3rd. More »

Happy Mother’s Day mommie! Not that you’ll ever read Ningin or anything. Just throwing the sentiment out there. Ok back on topic. I think it’s always cool to see celebs without makeup. Here’s Sun Mi from the Wondergirls. Makes you feel that anyone can be a celeb with the right stylist!

Apparently, the NBC Peacock God is listening to my prayers. While The Office isn’t set to air more than once a week or Saturday Night Live hasn’t been made Every Night Live, the next best thing has happened: Mindy Kaling, writer/actor/co-producer of The Office, has inked a 2-year contract for a show last week. As to what the show will be about, Kaling jokingly tweeted: More »

BoA’s oldest brother Kwon Soon Hwon (권순훤) got married on Saturday May 9, in Korea. Lately, due to BoA’s impossibly strenuous schedule, she has not been able to visit her homeland very often. Wango Tango, and Hollywood Bowl both take place today but are not more important than supporting her brother and spending some rare time with her family. More »

What’s this you hear all the girls whispering about? Shojo manga?! Manga — FOR GIRLS?! Yes. In case you haven’t taken a walk to your local Borders or Barnes & Nobles, shojo manga is getting big in the US. The Borders by me has an entire section devoted to shojo manga. I’m talking ten feet long, 6 rows high of shelf space. All in English. All Manga. All Shojo. And now shojo manga lives on your iPhone with DRAMACON! More »

The 2009 Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival closed on Thursday night with a screening of the Oscar winning film DEPARTURES (directed by Yojiro Takita). The winners of this year’s 25th festival were also announced and it was a lineup of the usual suspects who have been cleaning up at Asian film festivals throughout 2009… More »

Last weekend at the Soundscape Jpop party in NYC, there was a moment when I was hanging out at the DJ booth with DJ Aki. I was looking over DJ Aki’s shoulder and someone was looking over my shoulder. We shall call this someone “Hwa”. So DJ Aki was playing some old Speed track and he had an ELT track queued up. (ELT of course short for Every Little Thing.) Then I heard one of the craziest things I’d ever heard. Hwa said something totally ridiculous like “Speed is better than ELT.” WTF?! More »

AfterSchool kicks off the performance literally, with heels a flyin’. During the “AH” performance on May 5th, SoYoung sent her right high heeled shoe into the other end of the stage. More »

Ningin has a lot of visitors on a daily basis, most of them are lurkers. By lurkers, I mean people who visit regularly but never register and never interact with other users. While we don’t require you to register to read or access the news and media on our site (nor do we ever plan on changing that), it would be nice if you lurkers stepped out of the proverbial internet shadows and register. There’s definitely a double standard here. People could care less if Americans celebs does the sexy routine, but when Asian artists do it, they’re sluts. You expect traditional Asian media to preach this, but no so much Asian bloggers. If you click through and look at the actual video, it’s not any worst than what Britney or Pussycat Dolls do in their video. Chae Yeon may be 30 but, hey great for her that she still looks that great at 30.

Way to go J.J. Abrams. You are a gifted genius that turns anything you touch into gold. The Star Trek reboot movie got a 95% score on Rottentomatoes. That’s like saying 95% of all the movie critics in the country like your movie. It’s really good. Though, at about 2pm earlier today, it was actually higher at 96%. So if you can only see one movie this weekend, you should catch Star Trek! More »

At long last next Tuesday, May 12, Utada’s “This Is The One” finally gets released in American record stores. In March (Yes, way back in March), “This Is The One” was released digitally in the US market. It debuted at #20 on the iTunes overall Album chart and #2 on the iTunes Pop Album chart. Utada became the first Japanese artist to break the Top 20 Album chart on the iTunes US Store (or is that Japanese-American artist?). More »

Our favorite part Armenian, part Japanese singer Stephanie (ステファニー) released her new single FUTURE last week. It’s the theme song to HIGH KICK GIRL, the new Japanese movie about, well, a karate girl that can kick really high. (At least it’s for real, actress Rina Takeda is really a black belt and kicks that high — right to the side of your head!) “Future” (the song) sounds like the end of the movie when everyone’s partying it up. (a HIGH KICK GIRL spoiler?) More »

Weight loss is a big issue in America. I don’t know what the percentage of overweight Asians in the country are, but I can tell you this much – don’t believe everything you read online or see on tv. One great example is the rolling pin/dinner plate method.

Besides my love for beer and boxing, there’s reason to believe that I am woman with just one word and one word alone: shoes. Give me shoes, or give me death is something I live by. Apparently South Korean actress Ryu Won Jung, mostly remembered as “Anna Rexia” in 2005’s My Name is Kim Sam Soon and in real life, shares my same motto. Case-en-point? She rocked Balmain’s Spring/Summer 2009 “IT” shoes at this week’s “Castaway On The Moon” movie press conference. More »
