You’ve probably been hearing about Kero One touring with Epik High and Far East Movement on the MAP THE SOUL Tour. It’s no mistake the Bay Area Rapper and Producer was given a coveted time slot on the tour. Kero One worked his way up from the bottom, juggling his day job as web designer while spending nights honing his rapping, producing and DJing skills. Japan’s DJ Deckstream asked Kero One to remix Talib Kweli’s “Keep It In The Pocket” for SOUNDTRACKS 1.5, a compilation project also featuring remix production from DJ Jazzy Jeff. This remix was only available exclusively in Japan — UNTIL NOW! Give it a listen here on Ningin! More »

BoA has signed with Hollywood’s Creative Artists Agency (CAA) to give her U.S. career a much needed push. CAA also represents other Ningin favorites like dance crew Jabbawockeez (ABDC, Ningin’s REBUILDING THE BRIDGE fundraiser event) and director Michael Kang (THE MOTEL, W32nd). CAA will be taking over all aspects of BoA’s American presence including music, film and merchandising. CAA said they’re also thinking about a BoA U.S. tour in late 2009. More »

Whatever this moe craze is, it’s spreading like wildfire…if Japan had trees and forests left for wildfires. But you get what I mean. If only I had a good moe idea to bring to Japan. Things really spread fast in that country.

Generally, if Perez loves it, I love it too. This time around, the Queen of All Media may have to be off with my head. While he’s showing nothing but love for 2ne1’s “Fire” mv and single, I’m kind of on the fence. I’m willing to take fault, though. Given the steam off their previous Lollipop single, the way they rock my favorite designer duds (see: 2ne1 promo poster with the Margiela shades and shoulder pads!), how I sort of admired Sandara Park’s stint at fame in my most beloved country, the Philippines — I was settin’ my expectations high. Britain’s former T4 TV personality and my personal style icon, Alexa Chung, is coming stateside via MTV’s “The Alexa Chung Show.” The Alexa Chung show is deemed the successor to MTV’s TRL show, but with a twist. A Twitter twist. Unlike TRL where viewers were filmed or phoned to express reactions to celebrity guests, The Alexa Chung show’s partnership with Twitter will allow just about anyone with a Twitter account to Tweet their reactions that will be made visible on-screen. According to MTV, this is one way they’ll make its viewers “the stars.” More »

Verizon Wireless is having a contest for MAP THE SOUL tickets in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, and Seattle! One winner in each city wins 5 tickets, a VIP meet and greet, 5 autographed posters, and 1 Samsung Omnia phone. (Yes, that’s correct. 5 of everything but only one phone.) I don’t know if Epik High are going to get any sleep on this tour with all the meet and greets in their schedule. To enter you have to stop by a participating Verizon Wireless store. More »

I think that Maxim is a great magazine to read and look at. It has funny articles and great photo spreads. But I would never buy it myself, just read it from the newsstand or a friend’s house. The May, Korean edition has a pretty hot girl on the cover so it compelled me to feature it today. That girl on the cover is Joo Hee from the pop group 8eight.

Actress, Writer, Producer, Composer, Music Department, Miscellaneous Crew(paper Puppet maker) — Charlene Yi’s new movie Paper Heart is about to be released on August 7th. Yi has worn many hats in this film, yes, she did all those things I mentioned on top. Charlene Yi who has been in shows like 3rd rock, cold case and movies like Knocked up and Semi-pro has just written herself a ticket to the top. The movie also stars Micheal Cera and Seth Rogen. Just happened to catch a trailer of this sundance hit and thought talent like this needed a little recognition. More »

Happy Children’s Day, everyone! Or at least in Japan and South Korea. Every year, Korea and Japan celebrate this as a national holiday. Families go out together and enjoy some quality time with each other. Whether it’s at a picnic, a trip to an amusement part, or perusing through a museum, this is a holiday all for the little (and big) ones out in these two countries. This also the day where children will receive present and monies from their parents and other relatives. More »

Some girls try hard to be sexy. Some girls are born a little luckier than others and don’t need to try as hard. But ladies, there’s something about girls wearing men clothing that always equal sexy. You don’t need to look like Han Chae Young over here to try this.

On Cyworld; which is basically the equivalent to the US Myspace or Facebook, newcomers After School locked in the Rookie of the Month title. After School, if you are unfamiliar with them, are a pop dance group produced by Pledis Entertainment, best known for Son Dam Bi. They’re led by one of BoA’s sr. dancers named Park Ji Young (Stagename: Park Kahi). The rest of the lineup includes 5 other girls, Kim Jung Ha, Beka, Lee Joo Yeon, Yoo So Yeong, and Uee. They debuted on 12.29.2008 at SBS InkiGayo. More »

You know you are getting old when you don’t know the artists that giant soft drink brand Pepsi sign to endorse their products. I used to follow these Pepsi celebrity endorsers like crazy. Remember Faye Wong, Aaron Kwok, Jay Chou, Jolin Tsai and Louis Koo? They were once enslaved by Pepsi to tout its flagship soda brand like their lives depend on it. The company had also used boy bands like F4 to do the same thing in the past. Wonder how these sissy pants managed to lift up a can of Pepsi when they shot the commercials and not break their nicely manicured nails. They looked oh so fragile!

Ava Lee (Lee Jung Hyun) has just updated us on her Facebook with new details and covers about her mini album. Her new image is sizzling. It’s like a cross between moulin rouge and geisha. The title song remake, “Michyeo”, updates its techno style with a touch of urban instruments. Expect the mini album to drop on May 10th and a performance on May 16th. More »

Who would of thought Tablo from Epik High is such a romantic? Hmm, I guess musicians are always kinda romantic since they can just sing to ya. Ok so celebrities in love, is there anything cuter? I guess bunnies, but you get the idea.

On Monday Yao Ming and the Houston Rockets will faced the Los Angeles Lakers in Round 2 of the Western Conference NBA Playoffs. I would be shocked if the Rockets beat the Lakers this year considering the Lakers are a favorite to win the championships and the Rockets have lost four times to the Lakers this season. More »

If you blinked anytime during last night’s “Battle of East and West” Pacquiao vs. Hatton fight, you would’ve missed it. In just two rounds, Manny “The Pac Man” Pacquiao sent Ricky Hatton to the floor, reminding millions of viewers around the world that the Pac Man is the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world. The fight was so short, I could probably summarize it all in one sentence: Pacquiao sent Hatton to the floor twice in the first round, then proceeded in the 2nd with a strong left hook that knocked Hatton unconscious. That was the entire fight. Mabu-freakin-hay! (Mabuhay; Filipino for, “Long live!”) More »

Sorry for the lack of favorites the past few days, but the powers that be gave me a few days off. I’m guessing they’re afraid that I’ll burn out or something. Ok the truth… I was afraid of getting swine flu. Until I saw this mask. Now I feel safe to blog again.
Just caught a screening of “Martyrs” a french film starring, Morjana Alaoui and Mylène Jampanoï who is 50% chinese and 50% french and a 100% hottest woman ever. Unfortunately, she is married to Indian Supermodel actor Milind Soman who she met during the shooting of the film Valley of Flowers. Anyway, back to the film, this movie is not for the faint of heart. Some might categorize this as torture porn a-la Saw or Hostel but unlike Saw or Hostel this movie has substance. Having seen plenty of Japanese and Korean Horror and their freaky counterparts which are great in their own right and can leave you sometimes a little disturbed but nonetheless feeling like you just came out of a movie.
