We like to talk about 2009 like it is the YEAR for Asian cross overs. In the case of Charice Pempengco, you can’t really say that she crossed over. She was here before she crossed over, all thanks to Youtube. It was announced this week that 16 year old Charice Pempengco has accomplished crossing over by being signed to major record label, Warner Brothers Records.
Where it’s taken some of our beloved Asian artists YEARS to plan their American market take-over, Charice was able to chart her success in less than two years! Her latest single, “Note To God” took the No. 5 spot on iTunes and No. 1 on the Amazon download charts in it’s first week. To celebrate, here are a few of my favorite live performances:
Charice Pempengco, “I Will Always Love You,” The Paul O’ Grady Show:
Charice Pempengco, “I Will Survive,” Good Morning America:
Charice Pempengco, “One Moment in Time,” ASAP Music Room
(Watch around 1:28 — that high note gives me goosebumps!)
Her first album with Warner Brothers is scheduled to drop this fall!
