This weekend will be the sixth year Loving Day, nationwide celebrations marking the anniversary of Loving v. Virginia (1967), the Supreme Court decision that legalized interracial marriage in the United States. Multiracial Americans are the fastest growing demographic group according the latest census figures (AP). This year holds special significance because of the election of Barack Obama, the first multicultural US president. June 12 marks the anniversary of the court ruling, but Loving Day Celebrations are typically held the closest weekend. This year it’s Sunday, June 7!

The New York City Loving Day Celebration will be the largest event one this Sunday, June 7, from 3-7pm at Solar 1, located on the East River waterfront at 23rd Street in Manhattan (2420 FDR Drive, Service Road East, New York, NY 10010). Free barbecue for everyone all day. Free beer for the of legal age from 3-4pm will be served for the first hour. DJ’s Dhundee and Tyler Askew will be spinning the outdoor grooves. This year’s celebration is generously sponsored by Asahi, Puma, Good Magazine, Cupid’s Lab, Mixed Child, Sugar Cuts Music, Rude/MFT, World Up, and Solar One. The event is open to everyone, including guests of all ages.

Loving Day events are also planned this year in Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle, Philadelphia, Miami, Salem, OR, St. Louis, MO, Santa Cruz, CA, Jonesboro, GA, Canoga Park, CA, State College, PA, and Tokyo, Japan.

Yeah. The title of the article is, Dating 101: Dealing With the Race Factor[/i by Arnold Chao]. Look it up on yahoo if you wish. I can’t get the url to work.

@siralop - that is one really long url! when i clicked on it, it said the document was removed or something like that~

this is ok cool and all but it kinda cheapens what hollidays are if you make everything a holliday.

Heyyyyyyyyy Jonesboro!
Oh wait that’s today isn’t it o.o
Crap FML I just got home from work >_>

Loving Day?
Whay’s next!?

I’m so happy and what makes it even better is I’m at the title screen of mirrors edge and the opening music totally fits this subject :D

i feel so oblivious. i never knew interracial marriage was illegal. i just thought it was frowned upon.

anyways, congrats to all the multiracial people and happy loving day!

Read it again. It was illegal up til 1967. We’ve been ok to marry any race we want since that time.

i know~
i was saying before that court case, i never knew it was an illegal thing in US

pretty interesting, i never knew about Loving Day until now.

This is cool. I have a lot of hapa friends who don’t know about this.
