Masi Oka, of Heroes fame, is planning to produce a family-friendly movie based on mmorpgs (massively multiplayer online role-playing game). The story revolves around a group of teens that only know each other through the computer until something threatens the safety of the world and they have to meet up in the real world to save it.

The movie is titled The Defenders. The movie idea popped into his head because of his experiences of playing mmorpgs. He introduced the idea to DreamWorks and they agreed to let him do the project. With Oka to produce the film, Gary Whitta (The Book Of Eli) will write the script and D.J. Caruso (Eagle Eye) is a possible director.

Hmm…I don’t know but the movie sounds a little too cliche but what isn’t these days? Hopefully the movie will have great actors and a great script to pull off a pretty overused storyline (as in a group of ordinary people suddenly have to save the world from evil).

I’m not surprised on this. There have been shows and movies based on the world of MMORPG for the past five years I’d say that’s been catching people’s eye.

really!?
what shows?
