My favorite airline, Asiana Airlines, has started screening two inflight animation videos on global etiquette recently. The airline’s objective is to provide its customers a travel 101 on how to behave on the plane and at a tourist site. The inflight animation was created by the same team that created Pucca, a famous Korean animation character. More »

We talk about and show a lot of stories about the weirdness that is Japanese culture sometimes. I think you would have to agree with me that this is one of the weirdest things I’ve ever read. It’s been raining tadpoles in Japan…actual tadpoles. If you’re afraid of seeing a lot of dead tadpoles, I suggest you don’t click through…

We’re going to be expanding the monthly prize pool a bit starting this month. Ningin is already offering to give away music cds to the top three monthly winners, but we also have a pretty sizable collection of DVD and Blu-ray movies and anime. I know a lot of our content is music related, but we do want to promote all aspects of Asian media! More »

Namie Amuro surely didn’t chisel her body on Quarter Pounder hamburgers alone, but hey with all the hours she spends dancing it probably didn’t phase her. More »

Lady Gaga has been dominating the headlines among Asian blogs and news sites. There’s at least two dozen articles about her over a three day period, though a lot of them are a bit repetitive. Two things come to mind right away, one is Asian sensibilities seem to have a double standard. It’s not ok for Asian artist to dress risqué or to come off as sexy, but when Westerners do it, it’s completely ok. And why is it when Westerns idols go to Asia it’s a big deal but not the other way around. Well I know why, but it shouldn’t be that way I guess.

Today’s the big day — opening nite for the New York Asian Film Festival! Kicking off 2009 will be WRITTEN BY from writer/director Wai Ka-fai, who will be live in and in person all the way from Hong Kong tonight. The rumors are true that Lau Ching-wan has canceled his appearances in New York City due to fear of swine flu. (Yes. Really.) Tonight’s screening is sold out at the IFC Center, so please stop messaging for help buying tickets. I can’t help you. No one can now. But Wai Ka-fai will be attendance at all three screening of WRITTEN BY. Speaking of which, we have our NYAFF ticket winners! More »

Do you remember the Korean censorship committee going nuts because of “explicit” lyrics? I wonder why Lady Gaga was able to get past customs and the archaic Korean sensibilities. And that dress…I know Lady Gaga is special and all and gets away with crazy outfits, but I’m not a fan of what she’s wearing in the picture here.

The Sword of the Stranger anime movie comes out on Blu-ray and DVD today. Most of you probably have never heard of it but was in contention for the Best Animated Feature award at the 2008 Oscars. I haven’t watched this yet, but I’m been meaning to for awhile now. More »
