The new remake of the Karate Kid movie stars Jackie Chan as the beloved character Mr. Miyagi and Jaden Smith (Will Smith’s son if you didn’t know) filling the role of his student, Daniel LaRusso.
The movie is coproduced by Columbia Pictures and China Film Group. Smith’s father is also one of the producers of the movie. The title will be changed to Kung Fu Kid, most likely due to the change of setting to China rather than the California setting in the original Karate Kid. The movie is directed by Harald Zwart (Agent Cody Banks, Pink Panther 2, Hamilton).
To start off with the shooting on Saturday, Chan and Smith (along with his parents and sister) attended a traditional Chinese ceremony to get into the mood of the movie.
I’m not sure of how I feel about this but I just hope Jackie Chan can pull this role off. He’s a great actor and all but there must be a lot of pressure to play a role of an iconic character. And let’s face it- remakes these days tend to not live up to their original counterparts.
Here’s a Good Luck to all the staff and actors involved in this movie.
