While basically bawling in public over reading reports of the public Michael Jackson memorial that was so close yet so out of reach, I came across Charice’s tribute to Michael Jackson that aired on Wowowee this past weekend. Charice had been expected to perform with the late Jackson’s come back tour. The tribute performance is just a medley of Jackson 5 songs (“Got to Be There,” “Ben,” “I’ll Be There”) , but they do the job of honoring and fond childhood memories of the King of Pop: More »

2NE1’s newly released mini album exceeded 50,000 in sales while moving past SNSD in just a handful of charts: Hanteo, Cyworld and Mnet. (SNSD still holding strong with multiple no.1 spots). More »

From Ziggytek Blog: The Japanese have done it again. This time they’ve managed to create a robot that can make noodles in 2 minutes. Momozon Robot Rame was created by Yoshihira Uchida, who owns the noodle shop he works in. His robot allows customers to choose from over 40 million flavor combinations. More »

I am totally hoping this freshly-leaked 2NE1 sans makeup picture is a promotional item for their latest single, “I Don’t Care.” YG Entertainment is investigating 2NE1 No Makeup-gate scandal, but perhaps the girls are up to a new woman’s lib movement in Korea? More »

T-ara, the group that has no sense of image or identity, has came out with a new look. Quite a contrast from SNSD which has that one set of navy/marine outfit. Perhaps this is the opposite marketing strategy to blitz people with photos and see what sticks. I use to work in advertising and one of the central rules in that industry is to make sure you have a consistent message. But then again, there’s people who went against the grain and made it work. So we’ll see I guess.

From Ziggytek Blog: First cell phone blogging, now cell phone novels. A trend which started in Japan about 10 years ago called keitai shousetsu (or cell phone stories) has spread like wild fire in the Asian region thanks to ease of accessibility to technology and advanced features in multimedia phones. Hong Kong Cantopop singer Jason Chan is quite famous these days (more like this week). Dude recently performed at his album release event and apparently one of his fans videotaped him singing with a boner. The clip has since been circulating on youtube and has had probably a million hits. Frankly I had to squint really hard to spot it. I can’t tell if it’s really an actual hard on or an angle thing but he did stick his hand into his pocket after a while. He probably had to adjust it. More »

All your bases belongs to SNSD. Just hand it over, it’s theirs anyway. SNSD has been red hot recently but still number 1 across all charts and categories. That has changed; SNSD has completely taken over. Every single chart: TV, radio, magazine, mp3 sales, album sales, broadcasts, online, ringtones, billboard - you name it, SNSD owns it. More »

From Ziggytek Blog: It’s everyone’s dream to have a pet of their own but it’s tough with all the darn responsibilities. Well, now it’s possible for even the busiest person to get one. Sega Toys has created a newer, more realistic version of the artificial and very mechanical cat. More »

While I’m no big fan of Dambi Son, I am a fan of her Alexander Wang purse. (Alexander Wang for Gap, probably still in stores now!) In the July e-issue of High Cut, Son reveals the contents of her Alexander Wang “Donna” hobo bag: a soy bean key chain from Japan, an iPod, Uriage lipbalm, Christian Dior facial mist, a pen, headphones and a fug Louis Vuitton wallet. Could she be any more average? More »

Racism is alive and well in New Zealand. New frickin Zealand! Ryotaro Wright was nearly killed when some high schooler took bullying a bit too far. He had to get emergency brain surgery just to be alive now. According to the article, he’s been going through this for four months but no one stopped it before it came to this. Makes me sad…

Jordan Nagai’s Up movie has grossed $264 million in the US since its release five weeks ago. Well, it’s a Pixar movie so that’s not much of a surprise. Then I was thinking, that’s a pretty high number for an Asian lead and if it was possible that Jordan Nagai, an 8-year-old kid and first time actor could be the top grossing Asian actor in the United States!! Drag shows, operas, mock weddings and a hot body contest? If this sounds like a great time to you then you would have enjoyed Shanghai’s first Gay Pride Week. More »

In asking when the Energetic video would be released Sean Garrett said it should be about 3 weeks from today according to what he heard from S.M. He reiterated that BoA was a pleasure to work with - a great dancer and is very hardworking. More »

Today is a historic day on Ningin. Ok, not really. But something interesting did happen, cheekybodacious did not finish in the top three for this week. Neither did ryu00. Was there a full moon recently? There must have been some unusual astrological disturbance for this non-event to occur. More »

I thought yesterday was a slow news day. Today hardly had anything…except lots of Japanese oddities. For example, here’s the world’s largest hamburger. Why is the bread black? Does this look appetizing to you?

It’s been eleven days since Michael Jackson’s death leaving a lifetime of memories. Many KPOP stars have already said their tribute. Here’s what the JPOP community have to say about his passing: More »

J-Style was a hard hitting club banger that easily hit the top rank in April. Not resting between acting, singing and dancing, Lee Junki returns with a complimentary track and MV, titled Soliloquy. (A fancy term that just means you talk to yourself). It’s a mid tempo dance beat with a bit more complex overtones. More »

Happy 4th of July Everyone! Slow news day today which is understandable. So we’re gonna do the favorites in quick bites. We start of with SNSD on vacation. Well not really but the sailor outfits aren’t just for show!

WARNING: may cause irrational development of head-tilting fascination and an inexplicable obsession towards anime body parts. Perhaps the most staggering sequence ever conceived, the NEEDLESS ending sequence encompasses almost all the major body part fetishes identifiable in modern-day anime, and does it with such rapid-fire succession and accuracy that it doubtless raises issues More »
