Not to distract anyone from the new season premiere of America’s Best Dance Crew, but there’s actually a hip hop dance competition that tends overshadow ABDC in terms of international reach and audience. Think of it as the hip hop dance olympics. This past weekend, the 2009 Hip Hop International event took place in Las Vegas. Singapore’s Joyce and The Boys ranked at number 3, while former championship winners the Philippine Allstars took number 4. Kaba Modern earned themselves a spot at number 11. Sure in print this seems kind of depressing, but on a global scale — each team brought it this weekend. I am a little sad that Japan’s Beatin’ Hearts, a crew composed of women old enough to be your mom (44-56 yrs) didn’t rank anywhere in the top 10. I also think the Philippine Allstars got robbed.
