Japan’s got its panties in a twist over recent images of Miss Universe Japan wearing a cultural costume that features her… panties. The cultural costume will be worn by Emiri Miyasaka in the upcoming 2009 Miss Universe pageant, Aug. 23. Judging by the flaming comments to the original blog post featuring the costume pictures, Japan finds her costume a national disgrace mocking Japanese culture. Emphasis on it being stupid and pervy. Given her visible camel toe (uh…click pic to enlarge?), these accusations are pretty accurate to me.

But also, consider that this is indeed a pageant. Sometimes stupidity is expected. Women smother vaseline on their teeth, then there’s Carrie Prejean and now Miss Universe Japan. You’re pretty Miss Japan, but you gotta put some kimono pants on.
