I feel bad for Ivy. She just made a comeback and her management group decided to persist in appealing against the mighty Square Enix, who next to Nintendo is largest gaming corporation in Japan, as well as Internationally. They can afford to pay $100,000 for a monthly magazine ad for one of their games.
Why didn’t they just admit their wrongdoings? We know that if you admit it right away they REDUCE the penalty. Clearly her record and directing producers gave no care to obtaining rights to portray Advent Children in their music video. Because they tried to appeal, the penalty of $244,000 has been raised to $326,000. (3 Million Won)
Background: In 2007, a music video for IVY’s last single Sonata of Temptation was strikingly too similar to Advent Children, so similar that it deemed too accurate for a parody. After this event and another incident, Ivy was forced to go into hibernation. Another question is didn’t Ivy know what she was getting into or I guess she didn’t want to insult her record label by asking if this was approved. Now you know it doesn’t hurt to ask! Not knowing will cost you.
The worst part of this, is its common that record labels most likely will find a way to make their singers take a paycut in one way or another although it it was clearly the labels fault.
